The weekend had gone by too quickly, especially since Kyle had to work for most of it so we didn't get to spend too much time together.

That was fine, and I had time to run all of my errands, but it just meant I was missing him.

And the week went by slow, and I suffered through Kyle withdrawals, feeling it especially on that Thursday morning at work. I had last seen him Monday, after I had stayed the night Sunday and he dropped me off to work the next day.

I got there early in hopes of avoiding people because I definitely didn't want anyone to know I was dating and especially who I was dating.

If word got out, I could only imagine the shit that people would say about me, and it's not that I minded, but I was more worried for my job.

"Mia from Cleistershire, what can I assist you with today?"

"I'll just have you, Mia, if that's alright?"

Speak of the devil.

"Hi."

"Hello. You didn't answer my question."

"You know it's alright, as long as I get some of you too."

"Of course, baby."

"Why are you calling my work phone?"

"I have a meeting with Mr. Reynolds coming up and was wondering when it was."

"It's scheduled for Tuesday of next week."

"Great, make sure you can make it."

With my luck I had just taken a sip of coffee, which I now proceeded to choke on.

"What are you talking about?"

"I told you that I would talk to Mr. Reynolds and honestly, I didn't have to convince him much. He's interested in promoting you if you do well in these first series of meetings to close out a big deal with my company, along with some others. How do you feel about all of this?"

"Surprised, shocked, excited, but nervous. Why didn't you tell me in person?"

"I have to keep you on your toes, baby."

"You definitely keep me on my toes, and I love it. Thank you so much."

"Of course, Mia. You deserve the best and I intend to give it to you. From here, you will show every piece of your worth and he will be begging you to do the jobs he has in store."

"I hope so."

"I know so."

It was then I noticed that a certain nosy coworker of mine seemed to be waiting for me, her eyebrows lifting, as if she was wondering who I could possibly be engaged in conversation with.

"I'll have to talk to you later."

"Maybe I'll see you tonight, baby. How does that sound?"

"Good. Just let me know."

"Goodbye gorgeous."

"Bye."

"Who were you talking to?" Leah, the New Jersey girl or invader of personal space, asked.

"Just my mom."

"Are you sure it was just your mom? I was waiting for a few minutes now, and you seemed pretty giddy on the phone."

"It was. She knew I'd only pick up if she called my work phone."

"Hmm, okay. Well, I have more files for you, but I also wanted to ask if you wanted to join us at the club tomorrow. A few of us are going."
