Gopherwood, or "Stinking Cedar," is a rare, endangered tree of the yew family, described by the noted American herbologist John Torrey, found in the southeastern United States, at the state border region between northern Florida and southwestern Georgia. It is an unusual wand wood, historically favoring witches and wizards who are both wise and foolhardy. An unpredictable wood, gopherwood is particularly potent in transfiguration and has been known to accidentally choose multiple targets when handled by a less experienced wizard. But for those who are dedicated, gopherwood can prove a powerful ally.
