In this world, there are many tools one may use to direct magic. One of the most well-known of these is the wand. Of course, it is a common saying that "The wand chooses the wizard," with all wands having a degree of awareness with which they select...

Notholithocarpus densiflorus, commonly known as the tanoak or tanbark-oak, is an evergreen tree in the family Fagaceae, native to the western United States, in California as far south as the Transverse Ranges, north to southwest Oregon, and east in the Sierra Nevada. Legends whisper that these mighty trees house ancient woodland spirits, said to grant guidance to travelers who find themselves lost in its dense forests. One popular tale speaks of a weary wanderer who, having lost his way, was beckoned by a softly glowing tanoak. As he drew near, a gentle voice emerged from the bark, guiding him with a path marked by luminescent mushrooms until he safely reached the edge of the wood. The tallest specimens can reach an impressive 40 meters in the California Coast Ranges and boast a trunk diameter of 60–190 cm, making them not just giants of the natural world but stalwart sentinels in countless tales of magic and mystery.
Popular in California and the Pacific Northwest, Tanoak wands belong in the hands of those who survive where others do not, as well as the generous and brave. Their owners often have had difficult childhoods in one way or another. They also seem to be invigorated by challenges or at the dubbing of a task or goal as 'difficult.' Unafraid of hard work, these witches and wizards are persistent. However, they may also keep going at a task with the same approach instead of trying something new or different. As said before, adversity only excites them, and they also do not care if they make enemies. With their loved ones or those under them (students, employees, etc.), they can be protective and nurturing but also strict. The owner wants what is best for them and holds those around them accountable to a high standard. They can be intolerable to people who display zero work ethic. They love food and may be prone to overeating. Physically, these people have great skin (it is believed tanoak wands also help with acne and other skin conditions). When a tanoak wand chooses its owner, the process is marked by a subtle yet profound connection. The wand may emit a gentle warmth or resonate with a distinct hum, drawing the bewitched individual's attention. This bond is forged not just through magical compatibility but also a shared resilience and determination to overcome adversity. Those who are meant to wield a tanoak wand find that it feels like an extension of their very spirit, responding effortlessly to their commands and bolstering their natural talents.
Magically, tanoak wands are renowned for their strengths in defensive magic and healing spells. The tanoak's rich heritage lends an intrinsic robustness, making these wands particularly effective in shielding charms and protective enchantments. Witches and wizards with a talent for defense against the dark arts often find their skills magnified with a tanoak wand. Additionally, these wands hold an affinity for enchantments related to growth and nature, showcasing exceptional performance in spells that encourage plant growth or manipulate natural elements. Despite these strengths, tanoak wands do have limitations. They can sometimes struggle with spells requiring delicate precision or manipulation of fine elements, such as intricate transfigurations or charm work that demands subtle finesse. This constraint adds depth to their character, marking them as tools best suited for broad applications rather than meticulous magical tasks. These unique qualities make the tanoak wand an exceptional tool for nurturing the natural world and safeguarding its secrets.
