The state tree of Ohio, Buckeye wood is soft, plain, and rather unremarkable. Regular magical buckeye wood is seldom used as a wand wood, and in those cases, it must be cored with a powerful core (such as dragon heartstrings or thunderbird feathers). Such a wand is almost completely dominated by the core. Additionally, the wood is generally hardened to allow it to stand up to everyday wear and tear: this can cause magical blockages and impede spell casting. However, this changes if the wand is carved from a burl. Burl wands are visually striking and are said to bring good luck. While this is still debated, masters of these wands seem to be luckier than most. What can be said for sure is that buckeye burl wands are more powerful, can be bonded with weaker cores (like Unicorn or Quetzalcoatl cores), and excel in protective and healing spells. The wood may still be hardened, but this very rarely causes issues.
