Fraxinus americana, the white ash or American ash, is a species of ash tree native to eastern and central North America. It is found in mesophytic hardwood forests from Nova Scotia west to Minnesota, south to northern Florida, and southwest to eastern Texas. Isolated populations have also been found in western Texas, Wyoming, and Colorado, and the species is reportedly naturalized in Hawaii.Popular all across the United States, American ash wands are among the most loyal and protective. The wood itself is both tough and elastic, much like its owner. Its owner can withstand hardship as well as be flexible in the face of the unexpected. They are stubborn folk, with great courage and humility. They, as Ollivander says, are not easily swayed from their beliefs or purposes.
Rather than intuition, they rely on sensory information to make their decisions. As such, they are good at observing physical phenomena rather than, let's say, people's mental or emotional states. They quickly notice when something is 'off' when they enter a room– for example if something's been moved or changed. They usually have great eyesight and other senses.
These witches and wizards are utterly loyal to their friends and family but feel awkward in emotional situations. In maturity, they may learn how to give emotional counsel or comfort. But as for their youth– they are just about hopeless. Talents include healing, defensive magics, and divination (especially tasseomancy). In healing, their strengths are in pediatrics, maternity ward, and dermatology. White Ash is great for divination, defense against the dark arts, charms, and herbology. However, like with all wands, if its owner lacks drive or desire to succeed, then they won't– and the wand will also not perform at its full potential either.
Buttercup yellow, peach, and ruby sparks flicker from this wand during spellwork. Its magic smells of orange cinnamon tea, ginger, and ozone. Ash wands are weak to lightning-based magic and will perform it very weakly. Ash wands bond exceedingly well with unicorn hair. It resists being paired with wands from serpents or serpent-like creatures. When the owner and this wand are closely bonded together, spirals may form across the wand's surface.
