Acer rubrum, the red maple, also known as swamp, water, or soft maple, is one of the most common and widespread deciduous trees of eastern and central North America. The U.S. Forest service recognizes it as the most abundant native tree in eastern North America. The red maple ranges from southeastern Manitoba around the Lake of the Woods on the border with Ontario and Minnesota, east to Newfoundland, south to Florida, and southwest to eastern Texas. Many of its features, especially its leaves, are quite variable in form. At maturity, it often attains a height of around 30 m. Its flowers, petioles, twigs, and seeds are all red to varying degrees. Among these features, however, it is best known for its brilliant deep scarlet foliage in autumn.

Those chosen by maple wands are ambitious and assertive. This wand and its owner love challenges and can only perform better under pressure. Both become bored easily and need to feel mentally stimulated on a daily basis. Because of this, they love to travel and explore– learning from their experiences. This creamy yellow wand wood is prized throughout North America. Hard work and self-motivation are qualities held most dear to them. Yes, these people are high achievers, but not due to intelligence alone. Intellect to them is meaningless if one does not apply oneself. As they believe in hard work, they also believe others can succeed if they work hard. With this in mind, they are good at supporting other people and bringing out the best in others. They do their best to be gentle to others but can be blind to other people's limitations– not everything can be overcome by hard work, after all. There is intolerance for laziness and for those willing to take shortcuts or rely on shortcuts for their success. Crimson and copper swirls are emitted by this wand during spellwork, along with golden and purple flames. Its magic smells of maple syrup, embers, and fresh snow. Maple wand owners get along well with beech wand owners.
