Metrosideros excelsa, with common names pōhutukawa, New Zealand pohutukawa, New Zealand Christmas tree, New Zealand Christmas bush, and iron tree, is a coastal evergreen tree in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, that produces a brilliant display of red flowers made up of a mass of stamens. The pōhutukawa is one of twelve Metrosideros species endemic to New Zealand. Renowned for its vibrant color and its ability to survive even perched on rocky, precarious cliffs, it has found an important place in New Zealand culture for its strength and beauty and is regarded as a chiefly tree by Māori. The blossom of the tree is called kahika.

An exotic import from New Zealand and very rare in American wand making, wands made of pōhutukawa demand owners with great daring, strength, and empathy. These witches and wizards can be described as romantic warriors. They can ambitious and overconfident but also deeply emotional and poetic. Their emotions can be easily manipulated, especially when they are younger or have had a secluded upbringing. They feel other people's emotions easily and are led primarily by their emotions. They can be caught up in them, especially in feelings of vengefulness and wrath.

Given its ability to survive perched precariously on rocky cliffs I feel as though this would be another "Survivor's Wood", found in the hands of those to come close to death, but who pass through unscathed. I imagine the magic of wands made of this wood would be more showy, given its grand flowers, but also quite precise, especially when it is required to do spells, near, in, or around water, making it excellent when it comes to submarine casting and magic work. However, I imagine if it disagrees with its master on something I feel they would have the potential for some truly spectacular backfires.

Leadership comes easily to these people, and they delegate to others well. Aesthetics are important to them and they have highly refined taste. Many of these wand owners are talented at singing or music in general. Swirling crimson, silver and orange orbs are emitted from this wand during spell work. Its magic smells of iron, passionfruit, and evergreen. This wand quickly aligns with its owner's moods and will try to help them in any way it deems necessary.

If the owner has a crush or a squish on someone, this wand may try to pull its owner towards that person or trick them into the same vicinity as the crush/squish. In other words, it likes to play the wingman. When the owner sings, this wand will accompany them (the type of accompaniment depends on the core).
