Sequoioideae, popularly known as redwoods, is a subfamily of coniferous trees within the family Cupressaceae. It is most common in the coastal forests of Northern California and is known for being the largest tree in the world. It is one of two state trees of California. Edison Huxley Fielding considers Redwood one of his favorite wand woods in the world to work with.
From Pottermore
Wand-quality redwood is in short supply, yet in constant demand, due to its reputation for bringing good fortune to its owner. As is usually the case with wandlore, the general populace has the truth back to front: redwood wands are not themselves lucky, but are strongly attracted to witches and wizards who already possess the admirable ability to fall on their feet, to make the right choice, to snatch advantage from catastrophe. The combination of such a witch or wizard with a redwood wand is always intriguing, and I generally expect to hear of exciting exploits when I send this special pairing out from my workshop. - Garrick Ollivander
Redwoods are the tallest trees are on Earth. Prized in California and the Pacific Northwest, redwood is notorious for its owner's ability to survive the impossible. This is fortunate because they seem to be danger magnets. The personality and natural skill set that this wand is attracted to also make for people who thrive under pressure and against the odds.
These witches and wizards have good reflexes as well as good judgment and foresight. Not much surprises them and what does surprise them, is they react and adapt with ridiculous ease. As Ollivander states, they have a talent for turning disaster into an opportunity. Brave and adventurous, not much intimidates the owner of a redwood wand. They love RPGs as much as they love going on hikes and trails. They are optimists and are always thinking about what is possible. They try not to let the negative side of life get them down, and maybe willingly ignorant of other people's struggles or bad luck.
Redwood's potential is revealed with fire-based cores. There is talent in magic to do with pressure, physics, and fog. There is often talent with martial magic as well. Great for History of Magic, Charms, Herbology, care of magical creatures, potions, and ancient runes. There are issues with transfiguration. Burgundy and navy mists are emitted from this wand during spellwork. Its magic smells of morning dew, kelp, and a hint of coal. Cover this wand in ash periodically to keep it in top form. It prefers antlers and horns as handles and igneous rocks and fire-based stones (like fire opals and rubies) as embellishments.
