Y/n’s POV-

When I woke up the sun was just beginning to rise, through the window came a small beam of light that rested on my face. I sat up in my bed and began to look around, everything was silent and everyone seemed to still be sound asleep. Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep, I stood up quietly.

I grabbed and towel and some clothes for the day out of my drawer, careful not to make any noise that could wake the other cadets up. I left the room and began walking towards the girl’s washrooms. It was still cold out and I wasn’t wearing many layers, so I hurried and ran inside.

I quickly undressed and washed myself clean. I let the lukewarm water spray over my face to wake me up more and finally decided I was clean enough. I grabbed my towel and dried myself off and put on the clothes I had brought in with me, a white button up blouse and white pants.

Grabbing my night clothes and towel, I began my walk back to the girl’s barracks, hopefully by the time I got back they were awake. As I neared the entrance a girl with blonde hair walked out with a towel and clothes.

She looked very sweet, almost like an angel with her pale skin and bright, big eyes, “I see you got an early start to the day! You went to sleep so early last night that we never got to properly meet, my name is Christa Lenz!”

She was very bubbly for it being so early in the morning, but I know she was trying to be polite, so I decided to be polite as well, “Hello Christa, I’m Y/n L/n, as I am sure you heard last night, it is nice to meet you, I will see you back in the barracks.”

She smiled at me and said, “Ok, and don’t worry about being quiet while going in, they are all up in there now.”

I nodded and opened the door and walked to my bed. Sasha was on the edge of our bunk where her drawer was getting out a towel and some clothes, likely headed to take a shower. The other girls seemed to be getting ready to shower as well, with a few just proceeding to get dressed.

I hung up my towel and put my night clothes back in my drawer. I opened my second drawer and stared inside, tucked away in the back so no one would see was my father’s Survey Corps jacket and cape. Sighing, I picked up my boots, belts, and the new cadet jacket I had been given the day before and set them on my bed.

I began to put my belts on, something I did so often I could do it in my sleep. As for the other girls, they all seemed to struggle at least a little with their belts, they all eventually got them on right, but it took them a while. I couldn’t blame them, it was a little confusing to me at first too, I’m sure it is for everyone.

I then put my boots on while sitting on my bed. I grabbed the new jacket and put it on, I clicked my tongue at how new and unworn it felt. The jacket was stiff and much tighter than my dad’s, I had grown used to the old feeling of my father’s that it would definitely take me a while to break in this one.

I grabbed my mother’s silver brooch off the side of my bed and held it in my hands. The brooch had flowers that surrounded some sort of faint crest in the middle. The crest seemed to have a goddess with long hair with tear dropped around her.

With one last look at the brooch, I fastened it in the middle of my blouse collar. I went to a small mirror in the corner of the room and began to brush my h/l h/c hair. I used a tie and tied it up in a tight, clean ponytail.

Satisfied with how I looked I decided to go to breakfast now, hoping less people would be in there since it was early so I could avoid what had happened the night prior. When I got to the mess hall I grabbed breakfast and went to sit down at an empty table.
