Third Person POV-
The scouts continued their ride, many so focused on the deaths of their close comrades to even remember the hooded scout who jumped into battle at the last possible moment, saving everyone’s lives. Mikasa Ackerman continued riding next to her close friend and brother, Eren Jaeger as he slept off his wounds from the prior battle, guilt filled her as she wondered how she would explain this to everyone.
How would she tell their friends she let Y/n sacrifice herself, how could she tell Eren that one of his closest friends was dead, how could she tell Captain Levi that the one person he obviously loved more than everything was gone without a single word to him.
Captain Levi didn’t have a clue what was going on, all he had heard was the shout that Titans were coming, when he looked back, he saw the idiot boy from earlier trying to make his way to safety with his dead friend. He was going to go down and try and help despite his injured leg, but word quickly came back up to the higher ranking officers that things were taken care of.
On their way back to the walls the scouts made a quick stop to let their horses rest. Erwin was speaking with Levi so he never had time to go speak with his girlfriend. Before they took off he went over to the boy from earlier. He looked down at the patch in his hand that belonged to Petra, one of his comrades and friends who had lost her life that day.
Levi clutched it in his hand and gave it over to the boy, “This is proof that they once lived. That’s how I see it, anyway. It’s Ivan’s.”
Though he would never admit it, he cared so deeply for each and every scout out there. While he felt his own pain from losing a friend, he knew that he was strong enough to deal with it, so he gave over the one thing he had left of that friend to help this poor boy. The boy began to cry and Levi quickly left him as they began riding back.
As they entered the town the usual whispers were heard all around, the aura was terrible, people gossiped about their tax money being put to waste. During this a certain teal eyed boy was awaking. He grew irritated by everyone's words surrounding him, but Mikasa told him to endure it, not to fight back.
He saw a child that reminded him of himself, full of hope, but Eren looked around and only saw the grim, helpless faces of his friends all around him. He let out a sigh.
“Mikasa.”
“Yes, Eren?”
“Where’s Y/n?”
There was a long pause between the two as they rode down the street, Mikasa looked down at her hands, not knowing how to explain despite trying to find the words for the last hour or so.
“Eren… she’s… On our way back there was a massive hoard of Titans coming our way. She… sacrificed herself to save us all. She must have… died by now.”
Eren was silent, tears beginning to come from his eyes, “But I would have swore she was… she’s not dead. She can’t be.”
“Eren…”
“No, Mikasa you don’t understand. Y/n… she’s strong, nearly stronger than Levi, she’s not dead.”
“Eren!...Why don't you just… lay down?”
Eren layed back down, mind deep in thought about something he couldn’t quite put his finger on, tears still dripping down his face.
The scouts continued on their way back to headquarters, many of the elite officers trying to figure out how they would manage this, their support clearly being cut off by these events. They passed by the mobs of people yelling before they were finally back at the stables of their castle headquarters.
