Y/n’s POV-
When Marco had finished his piece of bread we took off once more to go out in search of dummies. After a while of trying to get to an area we hadn't been to yet, we finally found one that had about five dummies up, and there didn’t seem to be anyone else around. We quickly planned out what we would each attack and made our way to the wooden statues.
I quickly took down two and saw Marco take down the two on the other side, he seemed to use his gear to get to a higher branch to look out for incoming squads. I thought I had heard the faint sound of 3DMG zipping from my left, so I quickly attached my hooks to the dummy.
Everything happened in a flash, one moment I was heading for the neck of the titan, and then next I heard Marco yelling at me to watch out. I ungrappled my hooks and turned my head to see Marco had jumped down and that Jean was headed straight for me, hooks attached to the dummy as well.
Marco quickly pushed me out the way, causing me to go tumbling towards the ground, but because of many years of practice, I was able to quickly balance myself and use my gear to get onto a nearby branch. Marco on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky.
Just as he knocked me out of the way, Jean collided loudly with Marco, causing him to fall and hit the ground while Jean restablized on the titan dummy and rushed back to the ground that Marco had landed on.
I gasped in shock at the collision and tried to catch Marco, but it was too late, he fell too fast. I landed next to him after he landed on his back, he seemed to have the wind knocked out of him, but luckily it didn’t seem like he had any broken bones.
It hadn’t even registered in my mind yet that had Jean not tried to get the kill before I could, Marco wouldn’t be in this predicament. Just then, Jean landed next to me and I shot him a deathly glare, but he completely ignored me, quickly running over to kneel by Marco’s side.
“Oh Walls! Marco I am so sorry! I promise I didn’t mean for that to happen! Are you ok? Please tell me you’re ok?” Jean frantically said, looking Marco up and down.
For an asshole who constantly hits on girls at the most inappropriate times, and starts a fight whenever he could, when it came to Marco, he sure was an entirely different person. I suppose he would have a soft spot for basically his only friend here, but still, I have never seen him like this before.
Marco gave Jean a weak smile and coughed out, “It’s o-ok Jean, r-really, I’m fine, just a little stunned that’s all.”
How Marco was still so sweet, even after getting knocked to the ground by his best friend, was beyond me, but it made me understand the connection Jean and Marco had, and how Jean truly wasn’t a terrible guy.
Sure Jean puts us all off at first by his cocky attitude and irritating persistence, but I suppose he just acts that way around us because we don’t know him as well, and he probably thought he would look cool, or something stupid like that. But the guilt of nearly severely injuring his friend brought out his true colors.
Jean had let out a sigh after Marco assured him he was alright and I walked closer to them, “Marco, do you think you are good to continue, or do you need Shadis to escort you back?” I asked.
“Give me a few minutes, I should be fine to keep going Y/n,” Marco said, slightly propping himself up a bit.
I walked to Jean and put out my hand to help him up from the ground, he looked at my hand questioningly before I shot him a smile. He grabbed my hand lightly and I lifted him up from where he had once been kneeling.
