Y/n’s POV-

Levi stood up straight and gained his composure, releasing me from the hug and taking a hesitant step back. Those around us were still staring at us, silent as they gave us our moment. I smiled back at them as a thank you for their patience. A Garrison soldier walked up to be from a few feet away.

“Miss, we are specifically defying our duties for you, can we please begin the use of cannons once more! We don’t understand why you are so adamant that we stop,” he complained, he really didn’t have to listen to me, but while I waited for everyone I demanded they give me gas and comply with me since I was the cadet rumored to be second to Levi in skill. It seemed as though they were listening to me out of fear.

“Just wait a second!” I said, ushering the soldier away and turning back to the scouts, “As much as I love our beautiful reunion, I actually have something really important to show you, it should clear up all your questions about how I made it back here alive.”

“What is it Miss. L/n?” Erwin asked.

“Umm… well, just follow me and don’t do anything, no matter what, unless I say. Hanji… I think you are going to like this,” I explained, walking to the edge of the wall where Madeline stood at the bottom.

They all had looked at me with confusion, Hanji’s face lighting up as they followed behind me. I shouted at the Garrison soldier from earlier, “We are going down the wall, If Eren Jaeger and one of your other soldiers come, tell Eren to come down here.”

Before he had a chance to protest the departure we were making, I jumped down the side of the wall. I heard gasps behind me from my friends, but they quickly followed suit. I slowed my fall and landed so I was near Madeline, who had been standing there, waiting for me to get back. Everyone landed next to me soon after, extremely on edge.

“Uh- Y/n? Why are we landing so close to a Titan, don’t you think this is dangerous?” Armin asked hesitantly.

“Why isn’t it coming after us?” Hanji questioned curiously.

“Everyone… I’d like to introduce you to Madeline. They are the reason I made it back to you all in one piece.”

Everyone stared at me like I was absolutely crazy, but they were here now and I knew I wasn’t dead and making this all up, so I needed to show them what I had discovered. “Hanji, come here,” I said as I took a few steps closer to Madeline.

Levi stood there silently listening to everything I said, prepared to make an attack if I called for it and looking around to see if any Titans were coming from behind us. Erwin on the other hand asked if this was a good idea and I assured him I knew what I was doing. Hanji eagerly approached where I was.

“Just watch,” I told everyone, “Madeline, can you lift us up?” I asked.

Madeline nodded slowly and put their hand to the ground beside Hanji and I. I took Hanji’s hand and led her to stand on Madeline’s hand. Madeline lifted their hand up to elbow level and Hanji began to maniacally chuckle beside me, the gleam in her eye ever so obvious.

“As I was about to be killed by this Titan or the other twenty that surrounded me after I ran out of gas, I had taken off my cape to leave as a sign in case there was nothing left of me. Once my face was out in the open and I met the eyes of this Titan and the others, they somehow recognized who I was and stopped, frozen. Then… Hanji this is the part you aren’t going to believe. Madeline, what did you tell me I had to do?”

I turned and faced Madeline, who struggled to open her mouth, “S-ave...u-s.”

I heard Hanji gasp loudly beside me in shock, “After a lot of thinking I have reason to believe that, while Titans are normally in a state in which they cannot speak, I hold some ability that is accessed through looking in their eyes and them seeing my face and allows them to speak. Not only that, but it accesses a part of them that is… more conscious.
