The Pain Made Me Strong ~ Levi x Reader

Chapter 35

Y/n's POV-

     Levi and I each took a bedroom on the first floor and began to do our best work. Knowing Levi and I were both the cleanest and the fastest I anticipated having to help with the others' jobs later on, but I took the present time to enjoy my alone time in the far right room. It was quiet and peaceful and cleaning with Levi had really made me come to adore the relaxing elements of cleaning.

     After a while every room downstairs was cleaned but one and Levi and I decided to clean it together before moving to do bedrooms upstairs. I thoroughly dusted the bed on the right side of the room and Levi carefully cleaned the window. 

     Eren came into the room soon after we started and announced that he has finished cleaning upstairs. Levi and I both turned to face him, Levi's skeptical look hidden behind a blank stare.

     "Where in this facility am I to sleep, Sir?" Eren asked a bit nervously.

     "Your room is in the basement," Levi said bluntly. My heart dropped at Levi's words. Hopefully this time the basement really would just be a room and not a cell.

     "The basement...again?" Eren asked, hopelessly looking over to me.

     I gave him a sorrow filled glance and Levi said, "Of course. You don't have full control over yourself. Should you turn into a Titan in your sleep, we can keep you restrained right there in the basement."

     Levi looked over at me and I gave him a pained look as if to say, go easy on him, "That was one of the conditions I was given when I took custody of you. It's a rule we have to follow. You won't be stuck down there like before, just while you sleep… I'll go check your work. Take over here with Y/n, Eren."

     "Yes, Sir," Eren responded, following Levi with his gaze as Levi left, before turning to face me, "How in the world is that man your best friend?"

     "What do you mean?"

     "I mean, he's just so stoic and so blunt it’s mean, but I guess I do have to think about how he's not that way with you. All you have to do is give him one look and he starts explaining himself and softening up."

     "I don't know what you're talking abou-"

     "Yeah, he must like you," Eren said with a blunt attitude. 

     I whipped around and stood up, quickly approaching him until my pointed finger was inches from his face. A look of shock flash over his face at my swift movements, “Eren, I swear t-”

     “Oh… I’m sorry, am I interrupting something,” an all too familiar voice said from the door… Petra. 

     Eren and I frantically froze in our position, suddenly realizing how close we were and how… compromising this position would look to anyone else. We both slowly turned our heads to look at Petra. She stood in the doorway, fiddling with her broom with her fingers. 

     “I… I didn’t know you two were a couple,” she said a little dumbfounded, shooting me a look I couldn’t quite describe…was it a smirk? A look of relief? Then my mind began to wander to far off places, was she listening outside the door this whole time? 

     Eren and I quickly came to the realization of what exactly was happening and quickly moved away from each other. Our arms crossed and flailed in x formations as if to scream that were were not together.

     “No, no, no, we are NOT a couple!” I said.

     “Ew! No, that would be like dating my sister!”
     
     “Yeah, exactly…” I said; Petra gave us a look of suspicion, “I’m...I’m just going to go back to cleaning...over here.”
