Y/n's POV-
I exhaled loudly, knowing Mikasa was able to be there when I wasn't. She looked confused at the crowd, and honestly, I did too. Why were they not evacuating? We can't hold the titans back much for much longer, they have to get out now.
“What are you all doing?” Mikasa asked.
“Good timing!” a short man who was standing near the cart blocking the exit said, “Make these morons push my wagon! I’ll pay you handsomely!”
Was this guy serious? Does he even know who he is dealing with. I looked over to Mikasa and she looked just as mortified as I did.
“Right now, my comrades are dying back there. I can't help your crisis. They are dying from fighting the Titans,” Mikasa announced.
“Exactly! It is your duty as a soldier to die for the survival of the citizens! Don’t get high on yourselves because of the safety we had for the past hundred years!” The moron said as Mikasa jumped down, eyes glaring as she approached him.
“I wonder if they understand the value of one person dying for the sake of someone else? At times, the death of one is necessary to save many.”
“Don’t you even dare! Your commander and I are old friends! One word from me and you’ll be court-martialed!”
“How will a dead body speak?” Mikasa said, raising her sword to threaten his fate.
“Wait!” He yelled and ordered for the wagon to be pulled out, finally allowing the citizens to evacuate.
Mikasa saluted a family thanking her and I jumped down to stand beside her, “Good work, you really saved those people there.”
We met up with our commander and he said, “Good work L/n, and good work Ackerman, I am impressed.”
“Thank you. However, I attacked too hastily so my blades are now dull. I’ll do better next time.”
While Levi would have called her out on that same thing, I wouldn’t expect her to be able to tell what she had done wrong, but Mikasa was first in the cadet’s class for a reason.
“What on Earth have you had to live through to make you be so nonchalant? I mean, forget it,” our commander said to her.
There was an awkward pause of silence between the three of us. We decided to split up to get the last of the titans who had slipped through the middle guard while the gate was being closed and met up once it was all the way closed.
“Ackerman, L/n, it’s the squadron. Let’s scale the wall,” our leader called for us to withdraw.
Mikasa and I looked at each other, not ready to abandon all of your friends, and it was like I could read her mind. She was calling out for Eren to be safe, so was I.
“I will help the vanguard withdraw,” Mikasa announced.
“So will I,” I said and we turned around and took off as fast as we could to find the cadets.
As we got to the middle guard we looked around, there were only a few people here and there, but none were evacuating. We looked to the HQ and realized that the titans were surrounding it, if what was happening was what I think is happening, then we need to get those titans off of HQ now.
The cadets must be out of gas, there is no scaling the wall for evacuation without it. We kept a lookout and spotted Annie, Reiner, Betholdt, and Marco on a roof, around them seemed to be quite a few cadets from our class as well. The atmosphere was dead, they all looked horrified, they had given up.
