NAGSIMULA NA ang pasukan pero hindi naman gano'n kagulo ang buong Ashbridge University unlike last year kung saan nagkaroon pa ng mild stampede at nasugatan ang ilang estudyante.

Ang unibersidad na ito ay sobrang sikat dahil sa ganda ng kalidad ng pagtuturo rito. Kaya naman halos mayayamang tao ang nag-aaral dito. Former president din ng unibersidad ang ama ni Iris.

Kani-kaniyang iwas ang mga estudyante habang naglalakad papasok ng university sina Iris at ang mga kaibigan niya. Kung para kay Iris ay hindi niya napapansin ang intimidation na naidudulot niya, para sa mga kapwa niya estudyante sa AU ay damang dama nila ito.

They were an hour early kaya naman may oras pa sila upang umikot-ikot sa campus. Every female student around them had their eyes sparkling seeing them four graciously walking their way.

"Ang laki talaga ng AU, 'no? The facilities are so clean and minimalist lang ang design," puri ni Yuri habang pinapasadahan ng tingin ang mga facility.

"Of course, there are a lot of staffs and cleaners here to do their job. Alangan namang tutunga-tunganga lang sila rito," ani Alex.

Napakunot naman ang noo ni Elerie.

"Well, I think they hire the best here. Actually, may kilala nga akong janitor dito. He's my friend. Dito din siya nag-aaral pero night ang schedule niya," Elerie said.

"What?" Alex asked her cousin in grimace.

"Yeah, I know right. Ang hirap kaya pumasok sa gabi," Elerie told her.

"No, I mean... May friend kang janitor? Lagot ka kay Uncle Iggy once he hears about this. What if masamang tao 'yon? Or worse... Rapist?" Alex replied.

Naupo sila sa stone seats na may table sa gitna sa TGG or The Green Garden. People around them couldn't help staring at them. Hindi naman nila ito napapansin.

"That can't be. Childhood friend ko siya. Dating katulong kasi namin ang nanay niya sa bahay pero wala na siya. Nagkasakit siya at namatay na," Elerie said.

"Oh, so he's our age. Pero kahit na, I don't think I'd be able to have a janitor friend. I can't imagine," sabi naman ni Yuri.

"Pero dito naman siya nag-aaral. Scholar siya rito and he's taking night sched. Masipag siya. He's not that bad to be with," pagtatanggol pa rin ni Elerie sa kaibigan niya.

"Kahit na. He's still a janitor. What will others think if they see you with that janitor friend of yours? Bababa ang tingin nila sa 'yo. People might take advantage of you, too. You never know," sabad naman ni Iris.

Elerie felt really bad hearing those words from her friends. Wala naman siyang magawa. Hindi niya tuloy alam kung papansinin niya ba ang kaibigan niyang janitor once they meet inside the campus.

"Iris, I saw your Kuya's bahay on a magazine. It's a decent house with a very cute garden outside but I was expecting more. Bakit hindi na lang sila magpagawa ng mansion? Your Kuya is so rich and so is his wife's family. She's a Villegas, right?" Yuri asked Iris.

"That's what they want. Their lives, their rules, Yuri. And besides Kuya and I aren't really on speaking terms. Medyo awkward nga whenever he's around," Iris replied.

"Iba nga pala ang mommy ng kuya mo. Sila ang first family, 'di ba?" tanong ni Yuri pero malamig lang siyang tinitigan ni Iris.

Iris didn't like talking about her personal life. Madali siyang mairita kapag masyado siyang iniintriga tungkol sa buhay niya.

ILANG SAGLIT din silang nagsari-sariling tutok sa cellphone. The ice had finally broken when Ryland came to sit with them. Iris's friends looked at each other. Ganoon lagi ang reaksyon nilang tatlo whenever they see the lad.
