Maura's PoV
Jane still wasn't back by ten, and I was starting to worry. Steven had a good cry about everything, he had no idea and still doesn't know what Sam went through as a child even now years later he was still suffering with him being beaten when he was in care. I'm wondering if what happened to Steven triggered his own memories it's the only thing that I can think of. Sam has messaged us both to say he would explain to Steven tonight however he wanted me to stay as an anchor point for him.
"She still not answering?" Steven breaks my train of thought
"No.."
"Have you tried the bar, Nina's, Sam says she's not at school." Steven try's to help me work out where she could be
"Yes she's not..." I start but cut myself off when I hear the rumbling of her bike pulling up on the driveway after she insisted on taking it leaving the Lexus here incase I needed it with the weather being bad we haven't been driving the Spyder or Porsche.
"So.." Jane coughs coming in through the door with what I presumed was her trying to apologise
"Honey where have you been I've been worried sick you left hours ago!" I can't help scolding her as I make my way over to her frowning slightly before softening my face seeing how pale and exhausted she looks.
Jane looks at me sadly trying to pull a paper bag out of her jacket pocket when she succeeds she hands it to me as she hangs her jacket in the closet by the door. Opening it I'm shocked to find antibiotics,
"Jane... honey.. who did you see? I know you don't see anyone lightly." I softly ask as she makes her way back to me I catch Steven out of the corner of my eye leaving the house heading back to the guest house.
"I know you don't like prescribing for me Maur, I saw Hope" she whispers looking down at the floor pulling at a thread on her ripped jeans
"Oh, well you're right but honey if you were feeling this bad I would have prescribed you them, why didn't you tell me how bad you were feeling?" Tilting her chin up so that she would meet my eye
"You didn't want me to worry did you?" I quietly ask
"No I didn't want you to worry... and I need my voice for the dance next week..." Jane continues to whisper to me
"Mm well what did she say?"
"Same as when we went to Peabody.. chest infection but combined with laryngitis.. Hope told me to tell you to watch for that worsening.. I'm not allowed to speak above a whisper... oh and she's also signed me off from work for a week so I don't go shouting at students" Jane sighs defeatedly
"How did you get on with Hope examining you honey?" I ask curiosity getting the better of me
"She didn't touch me physically, so it wasn't too bad. Have you booked me in with Nina?"
"No sweetie not yet do you still want me to? I can see if she's got any late appointments?"
"Mm well I guess.. I mean we need to talk about stuff but babe right now would you mind if I go and try to get some sleep I don't feel like I have any energy to do anything"
"That's fine Janie, you rest as much as you need your body needs it and you need to listen to your body. Do you want me to lay with you?"
"Would love you to" Jane smiles down at me pulling me along with her upstairs
Jane's PoV
Waking up to a cough being trapped in my chest I carefully move Maura off me, rushing to the en-suit closing the door to try to drown out some of the noise I let it out a deep barking cough that seems to go on forever. My knuckles white from gripping onto the counter as I cough doubled over concentrating trying to be able to breathe at the same time.
