Sam's PoV

I still can't believe she's here. I think I'm in shock. Sitting down at my desk my phone buzzes in my pocket

Are you coming to lunch Sam? - M

I'll be there in about ten just finishing up good first day back? - S

I'll fill you in more when I see you so hurry up! - M

Having my phone in my hand I call Mark

"Hi Sam.."

"Don't hi Sam me Mark, how could you not tell me?"

"I was asked not to. The same goes for Maura. Jane didn't want you to know until she was here.. have you spoken to her?" Mark asks me

"Very briefly, she's changed Mark.. is this why I have to attend the meeting tonight?" I ask

"Yes I thought it would be best if you attend tonight's meeting instead of Jane. She hasn't really changed Sam she is still there, just extremely more guarded, be patient with her"

"Pull the other one Mark she's cold. I just can't believe you didn't tell me. Does Maura know?" I ask suddenly

"Have you seen her down in the department?"

"No I'm meeting her for lunch though." I say

"Well if she's not been down then I'm sure she hasn't heard yet. I must go Sam I'll see you later." Mark says hanging up.

Sitting back in my chair putting my phone down I sigh running my hand through my hair trying to wonder how this is going to affect Maura. Putting my focus into the last of my grading I need to finish I'm pulled out of my concentration when I can hear the piano playing. A smile tugs on my mouth hearing Jane play once again but at the same time I'm filled with sorrow about what happened.

Maura's PoV

Standing in line waiting to pay for my salad and Sam's sandwich I can't help but hear the gossip behind me

"God she's such a bitch, I thought she would have at least been fun, ice queen that's what others are calling her that's the nickname she's landed!"

"I thought with her being so young she might actually be a little fun. How wrong am I, first day back and Rizzoli goes and gives me a fucking detention."

My heart stops hearing the name Rizzoli..

"Sue I'll settle up later!" I call over to her holding the food up hitting call on Sam's name

"Is it true?!? Is she here?!?" I practically yell down the phone at him

"Yes M.."

"Why the hell didn't you tell me Sam?! I'm on my way.."

"Maura.." is all I hear as I cut him off my heart racing at the thought of seeing Jane. I have to make this right, I cannot live without her in my life.

Sam stops me in my tracks before I even reach the music department

"Move Sam.."

"No Maura stop. Listen to me." He blocks my way

"What Sam? What is it.." I snap pained, just wanting to see her

"Maura.. she's.. she's not the same.." he try's to explain

"Of course she is it's Jane!" I exclaim

"Maura honey.. she's not the same Jane that we knew. I spoke to Mark, he said she is the same but M she is very guarded and she apparently has her reasons..."
