Let Me In (book 2 - follow on from Abandoned)

Jane's PoV

Sitting in my music room just letting my eyes run over my instruments I can't help but feel a mixture of being content yet also overwhelmed. It's hard to explain being back in the house.

"Everything ok sweetie?" Maura's soft voice cuts through the silence of the room

"Mm are you?" I smile watching her making her way towards me

"I am, whatcha doing?" She playfully responds taking her usual position of sitting in my lap

"Just observing the room and thinking. What are the guys doing?"

"What are you thinking sweetie? Have you missed them whilst we were away? I left them and their atmosphere in the kitchen"

"Why on earth would I have missed those two?! Can you still cut it with a knife?" I question

"Yes you can.. and honey I was talking about your instruments not those two fools! Now what were you thinking how are you really feeling darling?"

"Oh! Yes and no, the first couple of days I did but when I was relaxed I didn't. I just feel a mixture of content and being overwhelmed being home you know coming back to the real world" Shrugging I explain to her wrapping my arms tighter around her as we both fall into a comfortable silence.

"Babe?"

"Yes my love" Maura answers, when ever she calls me her love my whole insides heat up.

"How do you feel about a pergola?"

"Where would you like it?"

"That wasn't the question Maur.."

"I think it would be a good idea honey, but again where would you like it? I presume it's so you can set the drums up outside?"

"Well yeah but I mean they will be in and out I won't leave them out there, hopefully they will fit in here.. and I'm not sure really.. but I was just thinking how much we like sitting outside and when the weathers wet we are forced inside that's all."

"I see your point! Well we can figure out where it could go I mean we could re do outside take some of the planters out, make room, or.." Maura trails off making me wonder exactly where she was going with what she was thinking.

"Or what Maur.." I push placing my hand over hers that had nervously started playing with her watch.

"Nothing sweetie. I'm going to head up, the travelings taken it out of me today. Don't stay up to long ok?" Maura dismisses my question and hastily leaves. Leaving me sat there questioning what on earth she was just thinking.

After five minutes of just sitting letting my mind go blank I'm startled by the raised voices coming through the house.

"Just tell me!"

"Why should I! You clearly didn't want to discuss it the other day when I needed to so why the hell should I bother now!"

Sighing I stand making my way through towards the two bickering queens. I was clear with Steven that I didn't want to have to deal with any bullshit tonight.

"Steven please!" Sam begs as I get closer

"No! Non volevi sapere quando avevo bisogno di discuterne!"
No! You didn't want to know when I needed to discuss it!
Steven shouts with aggression rushing through his tone. Part way through my phone vibrated in my pocket stopping me in my tracks.
