Let Me In (book 2 - follow on from Abandoned)

Maura's PoV

"No Maura, I've got to go I've got to finish setting up I can't let the guys do it all" Jane sighs placing the car keys back in the draw whilst pulling the keys out for her bike.

"Jane seriously, don't you think riding your bike is dangerous in this weather!?" I firmly ask knowing we are going to end up having yet another argument, that's all this week seems to have been is argument after argument, after I tried to talk to her about the letter which she clearly wasn't ready to talk about, but most of the time this week I don't know why she's arguing with me, I don't know what's wrong with her, she's cutting me out and I'm not the only one who has noticed.

"Maura, I will be fine. I know how to handle my bike. You're not even ready yet and nor is Ste, and I have to go! I can't expect the guys to haul and set everything up on their own!" Jane's tone changes and I know she's going to snap as her facial expression hardens and she clenches the keys in her palm.

"I just don't understand why?"

"Why what?"

"Why they can't put the last of your instruments in place, why you're getting changed at the school, why all we have seemed to do is argue since I asked you about that god damn letter, never mind the fact that you don't seem to want me to come any where near you again! I know you're not sleeping in our bed Jane, you come to bed and you leave every night! You're pushing me out and I have no idea why!?" I cant help but raise my voice as my frustration takes over

"Do you know what I have done today Maura? Do you have any fucking idea?" Jane growls at me clenching her keys tightly in her hand

"How would I know when you won't talk to me!" I snap raising my voice to match hers

"I tried to talk to you! You could have come and seen what I was doing today but you didn't! I got all my fucking lessons covered so I could move the fucking stage, all of it, the lighting fucking everything! I've not been sleeping because I've been working the fucking hall out at the school so it's all different. If you don't believe me then go through my fucking note books, and if you can't fucking work out why then I'm not going to tell you, I didn't really think I would have to seems as you're supposed to know me so well." She dangerously growls at me which makes me take a step back from her I've seen her angry before but I've never seen her like this towards me and quite frankly it's terrifying.

"Again really what the hell is going on with you two? I can hear you from out there!" Steven shouts coming in through the side door standing between us once again trying to calm us down and make sure neither of us gets hurt, he always stands in the middle, he's expressed to me how worried he is that if Jane slips and lashes out that I would get hurt and she would never forgive herself for that. So he puts himself in the middle to protect both of us.

Jane just glares at us throwing her hands up and exits the house I just stand there staring at the closed front door which I'm surprised didn't get slammed shut before hearing her bike kick up.

"M what's going on with her? I mean she's wound up tighter than a spring" Ste sighs pouring me a glass of wine I raise my eyebrows at him.

"You put me on the insurance for the Lexus for a reason M and you seriously look like you need a drink"

Ignoring Steven's comment I stalk to Jane's music room scanning it looking for her note books, finding them in the piano bench I sit and flip through them, the first full of sketches and ideas for the bar and club, the second is empty, the third I flip through carefully letting my eyes scan the words I realise it's her lyric and set list book however as I'm scanning the lyrics I realise that they are all really dark frowning I close the book. That's when I notice another book just under the piano. Retrieving it I look through and it's full of sketches of the hall at the school with the stage and lighting all in different places.
