Chapter 17

Charlie's POV:

"Mayleen hi!" Brandon said enthusiastically, when Mayleen opened the door.

"Hi Brandon, nice to see you again, come in." She said welcoming him.

I couldn't help but to stifled a laugh at his reaction when he saw Mayleen opening the door.

"I heard you're coming with us?" Brandon asked May.

"Yeah and if you don't mind my friend tagging along?" Mayleen replied.

"Sure, sure a friend of yours is a friend of mine." He said trying to flatter her.

"Aww thanks Brandon, let me get my coat." Mayleen said going to her bedroom.

"Dude this is going to be so fun. She's bringing her friend! You thinking what I'm thinking?" Brandon whispered to me.

"I am about to roll my eyes in sarcasm, so yeah I think I know what you're thinking, and no I don't like the idea." I said when I saw him about to speak.

"Oh come on." He whined.

"Ok I'm ready, let's go fetch Elizabeth first." Mayleen said putting on her shoes and walking towards the door.

"Ooh Elizabeth sounds pretty." Brandon whispered to me before heading out the door. I shook my head at him.

"Ok we're here." Brandon said pulling up in front of Elizabeth's apartment. "Uh you sure this is it? The building looks pretty old. I didn't even know there's an apartment around here."

I hit the back of his head. "Ow." He replied rubbing his head.

Mayleen ignored him and called Elizabeth. "Hey Elizabeth I'm here, come on down." She said then hung up. A couple of minutes later, Elizabeth showed up.

"Hi guys, mind me joining?" She said as she opened the door.

"Hi." All three of us replied. She got in the backseat with Mayleen.

Mayleen's POV:

Something is bothering her. But I don't have the guts to ask her what's wrong. I think its the fighting with the boyfriend thing.

"So.. You're Mayleen's friend. Nice to meet you. I'm Brandon Deveroux. You are?" Brandon said while driving.

"Elizabeth."

The moment Brandon introduced himself, she turned cold. She was all fine with him minutes ago. What changed?

"Nice to meet you Elizabeth." Brandon said, turning around to look at her, before looking back at the streets in front of him. I guess he didn't catch the coldness in her voice.

Elizabeth stayed quiet. She didn't smile. She just sat there.

"So Brandon, where are you planning on taking us." Charlie broke the ice, after a couple minutes of awkward silence.

"You'll see." Brandon smirked.

"Brandon I don't mean to be rude but um where are we going. We have been in the car for almost an hour." I asked.

"Chill we're almost there." Brandon said.

"Ok if you say so." I said. I went back to listening music on my phone. The radio was on but I am in love with this soundtrack that I cannot get it out of my mind.

"What are you doing." Charlie said turning around. I looked at him. "Umm.." I said.

"Don't tell me you're still listening to that soundtrack." He said.

"Pft of course I'm not." I said. He knew better.

"Uh huh let me see your phone then." He said putting his hand out.

"Ok fine yes I'm listening to it. But so what? Its the only thing that can remind me of the movie." I said. Then I went to put my earphones back on.

Charlie's POV:

"Woah what was that about?" Brandon asked.

"Well its just that after she watched that movie 'The Best Of Me.' She became obsessed with it, and can't stop listening to its soundtrack." I said looking back at her.

Mayleen narrowed her eyes at me and shook her head. Then she went back to humming.

"Oh that new chickflick everybody's been talking about?" Brandon asked. I nodded my head.

I realized Elizabeth has been quiet the whole time. She must feel uncomfortable.

"Hey Elizabeth, so have you watched the movie yet?" I asked, trying to make small talks.

"Huh?" She said, snapping out of whatever she was thinking. "I wanted to." She said still looking quiet. "But my boyfriend doesn't want to. And besides I was too busy anyway." She said looking down at her hands.

Mayleen's face lit up like everytime she had a great idea.

"Why don't we just go to the theatre next week and watch 'The Best Of Me'. All four of us! I mean if that's alright with you Elizabeth? You can bring your boyfriend." Mayleen said, looking at Elizabeth.

At first she looked reluctant to come but then after a while she nodded her head.

"Yay great! You two, you in?" Mayleen said looking at me and Brandon.

Brandon said yes, only because he was hoping to sit next to Mayleen.

"Seriously? We're watching it again?" I complained.

"Uh huh." She nodded her head, smiling.

"Well if everybody is going then why not." I said reluctantly.

"Yay!" She said clapping her hands. There was something I just noticed about her. She wasn't that quiet shy girl I met more then months ago. She was more outgoing and happier. Well that's new, in a good way.

"Ok guys here we are." Brandon said pulling up.

I looked out the window. "A club? Really Brandon?" I said looking at him.

"Only important people can get access. And as my treat, I got us access. Best club in town." He said. He got out of the car. All three of us looked at each other.

Brandon opened Mayleen's door.

"Well you guys coming or not?"
