Mayleen's POV:
I could tell it was morning. Even with my eyes closed I could still see light coming into the room. I could hear someone singing happy birthday in a whispery tone. I groaned. I turned to where the sound was coming from and opened my eyes. I was met with a pair of really cute brown eyes. Then I realized it was Charlie.
"Woah." I said sitting up. I was totally surpirised. He was on his knees, resting his hands on the side of my bed.
"Well you said you don't like big surprise parties so I made you a small one." He said. He was holding a small cake with candles that says '21'.
"Come on May, make a wish." I just sat there for a moment, with a confused face on. Then I looked at him, and my mouth turned into a big grin. I closed my eyes, made a wish, and blew the candles.
"Thanks Charlie. Its so sweet of you. I didn't even expect you to remember my birthday." I said still smiling.
"Of course I would. What kind of friend would I be if I forget." He said standing up. "So what did you wish for?"
"Aren't you not suppose to tell what you wish for, otherwise it won't come true?" I said.
"Fine, fine its your birthday, I can't force you to do anything you don't want to." He said walking to the door.
"Wow that is so unlike Charlie Randall." I said pretending to be shocked. He always wants to know everything. I guess he just can't help it.
"Whatever. Now come on let's eat the cake." He said walking out the door.
He sliced the cake into two. The cake was small but it was enough for two people.
"What kind of cake is it?" I asked, poking the piece of cake with a fork.
"Why its your favorite of course, chocolate cheesecake." He said.
"Wow you remembered." I said. Ok now I'm surprised. He remembered. I thought half of the time I was talking to him, he wasn't listening. "Thanks." I said again. He nodded and smiled.
"So its Sunday, and I figure we could just hang out at home."
"Sure." I said. I don't feel like going out anyway.
____________________We spent the rest of the day watching TV, arguing about what we were watching, then laughing about it, and ordering Chinese. After dinner I went to my room to check on my email. After a while I heard a knock on my door.
"Come in." I said.
"I'm bored. Wanna play some Monopoly?" He asked holding out the board game.
"Sure." I replied.
"And look what I got." He drew two bottles of beer from his back.
"Oh no." I said shaking my head. "I don't drink Charlie."
"Come on just once May. You're 21 and you never had a beer. I promise if you don't like it, I won't tell you to try anymore." He said. I thought for a moment. Why not right? It's not like I'm in a bar. If I got drunk, I would probably be safe.
"Fine." I rolled my eyes.
"Yes!" He said. He closed the door and hopped to my bed. "Ok let's play."
"UNDER one condition." I said, holding my index finger out. "I don't want it to end up like last time."
"Oh yeah that was awful." He said shivering.
"You were practically whining like a 5 year old." I said.
"Now wait a minute." He paused.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"What do you mean I was whining. You were totally cheating. The rule says you can only buy one house at each full turn. You can't straight away buy as many houses as you can." He whined.
"Uh huh. I played it with my mom all the time. And that's how the rule goes."
"No its not. Come on read the rules again."
"I don't want to." I groaned.
"See this just proved me right." He said crossing his arm looking all proud.
"Wha- wha- what?! What part of that is right." I said.
"Well you don't want to read the rules. That just proved you're guilty." He said.
"Wha-." I was speechless. Then I stopped. I was quiet for a while. "What are we arguing about again?" I asked.
He looked confused. "I forgot." We looked at each other and laughed.
"Ok you're right we are like children." He said. I nodded in agreement.
"Ok let's just play this game like mature adults." I said straightening myself.
"Yeah you're right." He nodded. He handed me a beer. "Come on take a sip."
I hesitated but then I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and took a sip. I taste it in my mouth. "Hmm it's not bad." I said nodding my head.
"Right?" I nodded and raised his bottle.
"Remember, I'm only having one." I reminded him. He nodded.
We started to play the game.
********************************
Charlie's POV:Well it turns out Mayleen had more than one beer. I forgot how many I had. Everything was getting very unclear. We couldn't focus on the game anymore.
"Hey Charlie. Look at this house, it doesn't want to be in this area anymore." May said all giggly. "Can I move it?"
"Sure, sure."
"Hey look at me I'm moving to a new house." She said laughing. "Look at me I'm a house walking." She said playing with the houses. I have no idea why I found that funny.
"Hey I need more money. I just waste them all on hmm I don't know. But who cares give me more money." She said. Man she was so drunk.
"Here have em all." I said throwing the paper money in the air. We both laughed. At one point we couldn't concentrate anymore that we stopped playing. Instead we layed in May's bed and told each other secrets, that we never told anybody else. It was fun.
"Hey Charlie." May said, turning her whole body in my direction. She used her hand to support her head. "If you could have anything in the world. What would you want?"
I turned my head to her direction. "Hmm.. Let's see." I looked at the ceiling for a while. Then turned back to her. "I don't know." She just smiled.
"Me neither." She said. She looked like she was about to pass out.
I don't know why but I ended up staring at her. She stared back. But she was all smiley. I bet she's thinking of puppies and rainbows.
I stopped smiling. I slowly leaned towards her, it was like I'm in a trance But then she closed her eyes, and her head landed on the pillow. She was fast asleep. That was when I snapped out of it. I sat up straight. Woah? What the hell just happened? I looked at her. I smiled. She looks- no no! I shook my head. Then I just sat there.
Can I be having feelings for May? Pft no way. It's just the alcohol talking. I really should go to my room.
I got up quietly and carefully. But I was also staggering. It was not exactly easy to walk with alcohol in your system. I stumble a couple of time. But I manage to get to my room. When I saw my bed I just got in it and went to sleep.
