Abby

Today is the day. Okay, it is not as huge as coming home after all these months, but it is still a part of 'coming home': going back to school. Part of me does not want to go back to that school. I had a good time in a building without any memories, without people who knew what happened to me, without people asking me how I was doing.

But I need to go back to my own school. Back to all my friends, all my classmates, to all my teachers and to all my memories. I really need to remember that the memories I have, aren't all bad. The opposite, actually. A lot of the memories of school are great!

I need to hold on to those and make new ones!

"Abby? Are you up yet?" Jenna asks. Yes, I am up. I have been for a few hours now. I pretend to be ready to go back, but I am scared as hell. What if I will break down again? I don't wanna cry in front of the whole school! What if someone asks about them? How will I react?

"Abby!" Jenna opens my door. She turns on the light and sighs as soon as she sees I am awake. "Please answer me if you hear me" she says. I smile, "sorry. I was just thinking."

It looks like Jenna already figured me out. She walks towards me and takes a seat on my bed. "You will be fine, Abby. You are strong" she says. I smile thankful, "thanks, Jenna." I sigh, "I am just scared."

"You should be! There are a lot of monsters out there, ready to eat you alive!" She jokes. I laugh, "you know what I mean!" Jenna smiles, "yes, I do. But you have to do this. I promise you, the first hour will be scary, but after that you'll forget that you left and it will al be fine."

I nod, "yeah, you're probably right." Jenna nods, "yes, I am." She stands up from my bed and walks out of the room, "now get ready! You don't wanna be late!"

An hour later, I am in the car with Elena and Jeremy. Elena parks the car at the parking lot and turns off the engine. She turns around to me and smiles. "Are you ready?" "No," I say, half sarcastic, half serious.

"You'll be fine!" Jeremy says. "We'll be right here if you need us" Elena says. She grabs my hand and smiles encouraging. I take a moment to breath in and out.

"Ready?" Elena asks. I smile my biggest smile possible and nod. We all get out of the car and walk towards school. I immediately see Tayler, Matt, Caroline, Bonnie, Stefan, Macy and Emma waiting for us. "I take the other entrance. I'll see you later" Jeremy says. "See you!" I say and I hug him quickly. I know he doesn't like to hug in sight of non-family, but I figure today I get a pass.

Elena and I walk towards the others. "Look who is back!" Matt smiles. He hugs me immediately. "I missed you, Matt" I tell him. I saw Matt a lot growing up. He was best friends with Elena since they were kids and they dated until a few months ago, so I saw him a lot. We didn't really hang out, but he still feels like family.

After Matt, I hug Caroline, Bonnie, Tyler, Macy and Emma, I just like to hug them as much as I can. "It's great to have you back, Abby" Caroline says. "We really missed you here" Bonnie says. I smile big, "thank you girls. I missed you too! All of you!"

"Well, let's get to class" Emma says. "Don't you dare do something crazy" Caroline warns her. Emma rolls her eyes, "you're not my mom, Care." "No, but I am your sister, so suck it up!" Caroline laughs. We all join her and walk inside the building.

Luckily for me, our first class is history. I always liked the subject, but now even more since Alaric is my teacher.

Macy, Emma and I walk inside the classroom and take a seat in the back. The classroom fills quickly. I see almost everyone who walks in staring at me. I try to smile back as sweet as I can, to prevent all the pity, but I still hear people talking about my parents.

Luckily, Alaric walks in and starts with his class. During his class, I see him looking at me a few times to make sure I am okay. I smile back at him every time, what makes him smile as well.

The class goes faster than I expected and before I know it, it's time to go. We all pack our stuff and walk out of the room. I walk with Macy and Emma through the hall.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't the girl who run away from home" the lovely voice of Lincy says. I turn around and see her along with her minions Rosita and Wendy. "Go away Lincy" Macy says. "Am I not even allowed to welcome her home?" she asks with a naughty smile.

"You have five seconds" I say. Lincy laughs, "I don't need more than that. I can't stay close to you for long without getting infected by you" she laughs evilly. I roll my eyes at her, "time's up. Bye."

Before I can walk away, Lincy grabs my arm. "Don't you dare turn your back on me" she says, but it doesn't really sound tough in my ears. "We all know that you will try everything to drag me down with you. Let me stop you right here, right now, because you won't be able to. Not anymore" I tell her.

She looks a bit offended, but puts on an evil smile within seconds. "Well, well, well! Someone took some self-defend classes!" she laughs. I roll my eyes again. "This was fun! Let's do this again sometime!" I say sarcastically.

Lincy laughs, "trust me: we will! We have the next three years, so you bet we will do this again." I sigh, "sounds lovely. Bye now." I turn around again and walk away from her, taking Macy and Emma with me. "Bye bestie!" Lincy shouts.

"She is such a bitch!" Macy sighs. "Believe me, there was one reason I was happy to stay away from this school..." I sigh. "Her" we all say at once and laugh.

When Jeremy, Elena and I finally get home, Jenna welcomes us with a warm smile. "How was your day?" she asks. I smile and take a seat at the sofa, while Elena and Jeremy disappear to their rooms. Jenna takes a seat next to me at the sofa. "It was okay" I tell her. Jenna waits for me to go on. "There were a few kids who asked me how I was doing, but I could tell them without tears that I was doing fine" I tell her.

Jenna laughs, "that's progress!" She stands up and walks to the kitchen. "Ric texted me you were doing great in his class" she says. I am confused, "Ric?" Jenna laughs, "Alaric." I laugh with her, "sorry, I didn't know that was his name around here."

"That's okay, I am just so used to people calling him that" she says. "But yes, I really liked his class. He is a great teacher" I tell her. Jenna comes back with two cups of tea. "I am so great you get along" she tells me. I smile at her, "of course we do! He is a great guy!"

Jenna takes a seat again. "Do you love him?" I ask her. Jenna starts blushing, "I really do." I smile and put my arm around her. "I am really happy for you" I tell her. She smiles thankfully, "thank you. I can't wait for you to find this kind of love yourself."

I laugh and shake my head, "not yet!" Jenna laughs, "Love won't wait for a good moment." I shake my head again, "you are crazy." Jenna laughs even louder, "I am not crazy!"

Then she looks at me and moves her eyebrows up and down, "or did you meet someone in the last few months?" I start laughing again, "Jenna, stop it! I didn't meet someone, okay? Just give me a rest!" Jenna joins me again, "okay, okay! Fine!"

We both stay quiet for a moment and drink our tea. "You know what?" she asks, "I will just stalk Jeremy with these questions!" I start laughing again, "please do! As long as you stop asking me!"

Jenna jumps up, puts her tea on the table and runs upstairs. A few seconds later I hear Jeremy shout. "Jenna! Leave me alone!" he shouts, "no I don't want to talk to you about love!"

I burst out laughing and almost fall of the sofa. Jenna comes back downstairs and laughs just as loud as I do. "He didn't like it that much" she says as soon as we both got some air again. "Did you think?" I laugh. "Maybe I'll stop asking you these kind of questions, deal?" she asks.

"Deal" I laugh. "Deal!" I hear Jeremy shout, what only makes us burst into laughter again.
