Abby

I open my eyes. When I look around, I have no idea where I am. I am in a small room with walls of dark wood. All I see is wood. The floor is made of wood, the walls, the roof. Where am I?

I try to think back to last night. I was at the cemetery. I was standing in front of a grave, Vicki's grave, and then it all went black. What happened?

A door opens and a strike of a bright light blinds me. A man walks in and closes the door behind him again. "Ah, you're awake! I as kind of scared I killed you," the man says. I don't recognize the voice. Who is this guy?

"Oh, sorry, I'll just put the light on!" He takes a few steps back and switches the light on. The guy in front of me looks like he is 30 years old. His brown hair is a bit curly and his cloths are filled with blood.

I immediately move away from him, but my back hits the wall, so I can't go any further. The guy smiles, "don't be afraid! I am not here to hurt you." I don't say anything and just stare at him. I feel like my heart is gonna beat out of my chest!

He squats in front of me and sits like two feet away from me. "Let me just introduce myself, okay? I am Jack Miller. You may have known my brother, principal Miller. He was killed a few days ago by your friend, Damon Salvatore," he says.

I feel like my head is spinning. This is the brother of my formal principal Miller? And Damon killed mister Miller? That is the most insane thing I have ever heard!

"But don't worry, I will fix it. In like half an hour I will be strong enough to beat Damon and kill him," he says proudly. My heart beats quicker. "You're not gonna kill him," I say. Jack grins at me, "don't worry. I will be doing you a favour."

I shake my head, "no, please don't! He is not a bad guy!" It feels weird defending him since he hurt me the last time I saw him. But I don't trust this Jack and I don't want Damon dead! I don't like him, but I don't want him dead!

"Oh, honey, you are so naive and clueless! Of course he is a bad guy! Don't you know how many people he has killed in his life? Oh, of course you don't... you don't know the truth..." He stands up and walks away.

My curiosity takes over. "What truth?" I ask him. Jack grins at me. "The truth about Damon and Stefan and Caroline and Vicki!" All of a sudden, I feel terrified. "Vicki? What do you know about Vicki?" I ask him.

Jack laughs, "really? Vicki is the one you are the most curious about? Trust me, honey, she is the least interesting one!" He opens the door again and walks out. Within seconds he comes back with a chair and he closes the door after him.

He puts the chair a few foot away from me and takes a seat. "Since I have about halve an hour to spare, I will tell you all the things you don't know, which is a lot. Are you ready?" He asks. I feel like I have to say no. I mean, this guy kidnapped me and now he is gonna tell me 'the truth'?

But again, my curiosity takes over and I nod. Jack moves a little closer. "Okay, so you know the stories your parents told you about vampires?" He asks. I did not expect that subject...

"Yes..." I say, doubtful. "Well, they weren't stories. Vampires are real," he says. I start to laugh. This guy is inane! "You are crazy! Vampires aren't real!" I tell him. He breaths deep. I stop laughing when the skin around his eyes turns red. The veins around his eyes start to show. Jack opens his mouth and I can see some huge fangs appearing.

I move away from him again, but I am stuck against the wall. "I told you they were real," he says. The veins and fangs disappear again and he smiles proudly. "Wha... How?" I ask him, scared for my life. If the stories about vampires are real, then that means they feed on people, right?

"How? Well, you turn into a vampire when you drink their blood and then die," he says. My eyes go big when I look at him. "You died?" I ask him. Jack nods, "I did. But don't worry. Damon didn't do that. I got some blood from my friend, Katherine and then killed myself."

My head is spinning. "Katherine? Who is that?" I ask him. Jack grins, "oh my bad, they compelled you to forget that!" I decide not to ask about that. "You met Katherine when you thought she was Elena. Long story short, Katherine tried to kidnap you, but Damon found you and brought you home. Then he compelled you to forget everything," he says, like it is the most normal thing in the world.

"So, Damon is a vampire?" I ask him. Jack nods, "yes. Just like Stefan and Caroline." My heart speeds up, "Stefan and Caroline too? Oh my god... Elena doesn't know..." Jack laughs, "well, that's were you're wrong. Elena does know. So does Jeremy."

My heart stops. They what?! I look at him with anger racing through my veins. "They know? Since when?" I ask. "Since a few months now," he says. My head is spinning. I thought the only thing they lied about was Vicki...

"You just said something about Vicki. Is she a vampire too? Is that why she ran away?" I ask him. Jack shakes his head, "no. Vicki is really dead." My eyes go big again, "are you sure? I mean, maybe she drank vampire blood and she is still alive somewhere."

"Okay, first of all, vampires aren't alive. It looks like they are, but they died, remember? Second, I am very sure Vicki died. So don't hold onto hope. I saw how they buried her," he says. He stands up and walks away from me.

He comes back with a glass with a red liquid. "Drink this," he says and he hands me the glass. "What is it?" I ask. "It's water with vervain." I narrow my eyes, "what is vervain?" Jack laughs, "sometimes I forget how clueless you are! Vervain is a herb that helps you resist from vampires."

It's not really like his explanation helps me. "Vampires can compel people. It's some kind of mind trick. They tell you what to do and you'll do that, without even knowing why. That's why you don't remember Katherine. Plus, if you have it in your blood, they can't drink from you," he says.

I wanna ask a thousand questions about these few sentences, but I decide against it. I just grab the glass and drink. "So that's what vervain taste like?" I ask him. Jack nods, "no. Only vampires can taste it." "Are you sure? It tasted different than just normal water" I ask him. Jack just grins. "No, it wasn't just water with vervain. I put some of my blood in there as well."

My heart stops again. "What?" I ask. "Yes, I may have to kill you today, so see it as an insurance that you will come back," he says with a smile. My breathing quickens. "I will turn into a vampire?" I ask him. "Yes you will, when I kill you," he says.

I shake my head. Tears are finding their way to my eyes and they start dripping down my face. "No, please don't!" I beg. Jack smiles, "as long as Damon does what I ask him to, I won't kill you, but I will kill him intead."

He walks away and walks out of the room. "It was nice talking to you," he says. He closes the door behind him and locks it.

I start to freak out. I need to get out of here! I can't die! I don't want to... I don't know much about vampires, but if they really kill people, I don't want to be one of them!

Is Damon actually a vampire too? Did he plan on killing me as well? Or, how do you say it, feed on me? Or did he do that already? Maybe he compelled me to forget it... But, how much of Jack's story can I really trust? Maybe he is just messing with me...

There is only one solution to this: escape!

I stand up and run to the door. I try to open it, but it won't. I try to push against it, but it won't move. I try to kick it open, but again, it won't move. Not even a little bit...

Then I hear something. It sounds like cracking wood, like in a fire. But then I smell something too. It smels like a barbeque. But when I feel the room is heating up, I realise what is going on. This house is on fire!
