Chapter 42

We were kind of busy the next day, and all Judy and Saeed did was annoying me.
What kind of reason that would make mum send them to me just like that ?

Obviously I hated them both, and when Saeed dramatically entered, I remembered that look on his face when his parents visited us in Egypt, and for some reason, I knew he was here to make trouble.

I was right.

That day I sat outside, writing, and someone tapped my shoulder. I glanced around.
Long light brown hair, blue eyes, pretty face.
It was my internet best friend, Veronica Gaggero, from Italy.

I was so happy, and shocked as I hugged her tightly.
"Oh my God ! I can't believe it's really you !"
I exclaimed when we let go.
"I couldn't wait to see you and I took a flight to the US, How are you doing ?"
She spoke, in a strong Italian accent, and I smiled.

"I'm great ! Thanks."
We were deep in conversation after.

Later That Day :

Barron showed up when he was done with school.
He sat next to me quietly, studying maths.
Veronica sat on my other side, talking to me in a low tone, since she didn't want to disturb others, and we spoke in Italian.

Till Hayden spoke, from across the table.
"Are those..ants ?"
I immediately glanced at the table, small black figures were crawling all over the table.
I let out a gasp of horror, and stood up in reaction.

I couldn't breath, tears starting to fill my eyes, Barron squeezed my hand, trying to help me calm down. But I couldn't.
I have a terrible phobia of ants, mainly because I'm allergic to ants, and once, I had a horrible rash because of them, that didn't go away till two weeks later.
I guess I was afraid of that too.

I stood there, frozen, not breathing.
"Adelle, breathe."
Barron spoke, clutching my shoulder, when Judy let out a dark laugh.
Barron looked up to her, angry.
"You did this ?"

Annie ran towards me, muttering a "Excuse me" to Barron, and pulling me towards the restroom.

"That was a horrible thing to do..!"
Veronica said, while Judy was laughing.
Then Judy mimicked her voice, as if making fun of Veronica.
"I can't believe you would this, Judy ! What were you thinking ? You know she's afraid of ants !"
Barron exclaimed angrily.

"She's afraid of ants..?"
Johnny asked, rather confused.
Barron rolled his eyes and ran towards the restroom, standing right outside the door.

"Adelle, are you okay ?"
He said, his voice soft through the wide restroom.
I let out a small 'no', trying to blink my tears away but failing.
Annie stood next to me, patting my back.

"Can I come in ?"
I nodded slightly to Annie, and she understood. She opened the door for him, and left.
Barron entered, and hugged me tightly.

"It's okay. Don't cry."
He said soothingly, and I calmed down a few minutes later.

When I was out of the restroom a few minutes later, I heard Allison yelling at Judy, and Rajwan spraying Detol all over our table.
Hayden and Johnny just stood there, irritated.

I hugged Barron's waist as we sat down on a different table, trying to focus on writing again.
