"There are times where all we want is to play the laughter, pause the memories, stop the pain and rewind the happiness." Aiyla

She never got to sleep that night, not because she couldn't but because of what awaited her, its the day, the day her therapy begins.

She signed and shrugged away her thoughts as she dressed up and went to study where the therapy will begin.

Her steps were light, the house empty except of course the parents.

She said her salaam and entered, he was waiting for her, dressed in casual clothes. He's fair and has an easy smile. Dr. Mu'az Farsi.

She sat down on the white couch opposite him. "Hello Ruha."

"Hey."

"So how have you been? How's your day?"

She shrugged "normal."

"So Ruha, please tell me something about yourself, anything."

"My name is Ruha Ismail. I'm 19 years old. I'm studying international relations/political science."

He nodded. "Why did you choose to study international relations/political science?"

"I like travelling, exploring new places."

"Why?"

"I hate confinement in a way."

He nodded "So what phobias exactly do you have?"

"I have fear of fire."

"Natural?"

She shook her head.

"Okay Ruha, now we will move to relationships, tell me about your friends and family."

Ruha smiled thinking about the crazy set of people. "They are awesome, they help keep me sane. Na'im just let's me sit and reflect, he doesn't think I need to talk, he let's me know he's there when I need him, they all do and they still let me fight my battles. They are the best things that have ever happened to me."

"Who is the person you are closest to?"

She smiled thinking about him. "Jamaal, he's my elder brother. He's always there when you need him, gives me a shoulder to cry on and makes me laugh." This time, she giggled a little.

"You said something about a Na'im."

"Na'im is our neighbour."

"Tell me about him."

"He's indescribable."

"Try?"

"He's a friend to all of us. He's quiet yet noisy, nice yet cold, understanding. He's an enigma, no one understands him, a mystery, a contrasting conflicting one at that. Na'im is someone who doesn't force me to spill it, who doesn't care what I've been through, his aim is to help me help myself. Na'im reminds me I'm getting better and its okay not to be okay. He's there when needed, both an audible call and inaudible call." She finished, the doctor gave her a look, analyzing and calculating.

The doctor nodded and looked at his watch "Okay Ruha, our session has ended for the day. I advise you go for a walk in the evening, it helps." With that, he stood to take his leave.

She nodded a thanks and watched him leave before collapsing into the couch.

The trek was quiet and nice. She is with the others but as usual isolated. She stopped at the cliff just watching the world laid before her.

She knew they weren't there anymore but they were close, she just wanted a moment of silence.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" It was a female voice, a calm one. She turned and smiled at the girl, who looked about sixteen, she wasn't looking at her but far, somewhere only she knew. "It reminds me that no matter how many trials life has set out for you, there comes a point where it all fades into the background. What remains is you, your happiness and the people you hold close to yourself, its life's way of ensuring everyone gets their due."

Ruha was stunned at her words and the beauty turned to look at Ruha, a small smile gracing her lips. "I'm a writer so stuff like this come outta my mouth often. What are you doing up here alone?"

"As you said I needed a reminder."

"Yeah, you always do. Can I say one more irrelevant thing, I say this quote to people, it depends on whether you can relate or not." Ruha nodded, curious on what this girl wanted to say. "You don't have to be emotionless to be strong and you don't have to be fearless to be flawless, this quote means a lot to me, maybe it will help you, I'm not one to judge but you look like you need it. I just wanna tell you everything is gonna be alright and no matter what you are dealing with, it will be fine one day, the pain will always be there, its part of us but when we look back one day, its going to hurt less much and you'll realize how far you've gone. Just take one day at a time and smile, besides we are who we are because of our past, and we are where we are because of it too."

She smiled and gave Ruha a goodbye gesture before turning around, the wind blowing her turquoise gown. "Who are you?"

She turned with a smile. "Aiyla, you are?"

"Ruha, it's nice meeting you."

"The feeling is mutual. Good luck in your future endeavors, hope to meet you one day, for now, Adios." and she walked away from her life. Maybe for the last time, who knows.

But as they say in life, you meet everyone for a reason, they come to teach you something and when they are done, they either leave or stay. Aiyla is one of them, she was there when Ruha needed a person, unknowingly. Whoever has her in their life is indeed lucky!
