Chapter 24 What Lies Beneath

(Animals) Leo, Kopa

Rani continued to limp down the path with Leo and she stopped and put him down to take a breather. "This cave system is huge" Rani commented to herself, Rani looked at Leo still thinking why she wanted to help him. "Is it just my kind nature like what my parents and Grandmother  taught me? " Rani asked herself.

Leo still layed there breathing very slowy, "I should find a place for us to rest and then we can continue finding a way out" Rani suggested. Rani went to Leo and repeated the same steps to lift him but this time she felt a sharp pain in her hind leg. Rani grunted and leaned forward almost falling and dropping Leo but she held it together and didnt. Rani looked at her hind leg and saw it bleeding. "Ok I'll find us a quick spot and then I can clean up" Rani planned, Rani continued to limp down the cave with Leo on her back.

Rani was still walking and she listened around in hope to find somewhere to sleep, "I don't even know if it's night or day or how long we been down here? Or if the others even know were alive? " Rani thought about until she heard something. Rani's ears wiggled hearing a familiar sound and as she took a left and went down the path following the souds Ran stopped in her tracks and her eyes widen in excitement. "Yes! Finally!" Rani cheered seeing rocks, open space, and a small stream of water pushing down.

Rani slowy put Leo down near the water and she stretched and sat in front of him, "We may be on different sides but please be okay" Rani wished as she saw Leo laying down. Rani yawned and grunted, "I guess I should try and sleep," Rani thought as she curled up into a ball and tried to sleep.

After several minuted Rani was asleep but Leo's arm moved, "Argh!" Leo grunted...

Leo P.O.V

I don't know what's going on, I feel pain everywhere my legs hurt and my side feels really bruised. I guess that's what happens when you fall from a cliff and somehow survive, my neck feels strained and it's hard to look around but by the looks of it I'm in a cave but I don't see the ravine. How did I get here? Did I walk here then pass out and totally forget what happened? 

Leo was able to turn his body but when he turned he was very close to Rani and his eyes widened and he rolled back and got up quickly doubt his pain and injuries. But when he did that he felt a sharp pain in his legs and he fell and hit the ground and he wanted to scream in pain but he held it in. "Why is she here?" Leo asked himself. Leo looked and saw Rani laid there sleeping and he noticed her leg was cut, "She got injured too" Leo said in a concerned voice. "Wait why do I care?" Leo paused himself rethinking.

Leo looked around and saw water and that the area he as in was pretty big,  "Did she bring me here?" Leo asked looking back at Rani. Leo paused and shook his head, "What are you thinking Leo she is the enemy...but you couldn't attack the enemy" Leo thought remembering his fight with Rani. "Why couldn't I finish her?" Leo thought, Leo looked at Rani and was confused but he felt something inside and he didnt knows how to describe it.

Leo laid his head down and looked at Rani thinking, "Why would she help me? Why did I help her by not attack her? Why am I so bothered by this?" Leo questioned. Rani turned over and Leo was going to move but since he was hurt his reaction time wasn't as fast and Rani and Leo's noses touched and Rani opened her eyes . Rani and Leo both grunted and rolled away startled and got up quickly. "YOU'RE AWAKE!" Rani shouted, "Leo looked at her defensively while feeling pain in his legs. Leo shook his head quickly, "Where are we?" Leo asked. Rani walked to him slowy, "Listen I'll explain but you're really hurt let's relax" Rani tried to reassure. Leo looked at her backing up and Rani stopped.

"Leo, I helped you" Rani metioned, "Why?" Leo asked in an aggressive way, Rani looked at Leo not knowing how to answer that. "Listen I don't know why ok" Rani answered unsurely, Leo looked at her still unsure what to do. But Rani noticed Leo's wound was reopening, "Leo your leg and you may have a concussion the side of your head is bleeding" Rani pointed out. Leo looked and at first, it looked blurry to him then it looked clear, "It's just a cut it's nothing" Leo addressed looking back at Rani backing up slowy.

Leo shook his head as things were looking blurry including Rani and he was squinting and Rani could notice he was acting differently. "Leo you're hurt let me help you" Rani begged. "Why? I don't understand why you would want to help m..." Leo paused as he was feeling light-headed. Leo was losing his balance and he was about to tip over but Rani quickly ran over and caught Leo's head before it hit the ground. Rani held Leo but when she felt his fur and barely warm body she felt something different inside something that made her concern for his health.

Leo looked at Rani and saw that concerned look and then his eyes closed and his paws dropped landing on the ground, Rani's eyes widened and quickly she put Leo down so She could listen for a heartbeat. When Rani listened and heard that faint heartbeat she exhaled in relief "Ok You're still alive" Rani commented happily.

Leo P.O.V

I didnt know what was happening I was dizzy and everything looked blurry once Rani caught me and when I saw her I was confused, she looked concerned about what would happen to me. I just couldn't keep my eyes open anymore, It's like all my muscles gave up but I still could use the other senses and I felt something on my chest and I think it was Rani. I don't know why she was going out of her way to help me. It makes me wonder why would a lioness like Rani be helping me...a...sabertooth.
