I looked at my phone seeing it was quarter to 9, we were just coming up to the school gates and I saw Miss Maraj just about to close them.
"Ah Miss, wait up! Don't close them on us!" Jordyn yelled.
"You're lucky it's me and not anyone else" she said as we walked through them. I assumed she knew Mrs Carter rang my mum and out of instinct I snarled her. "Um Jasmine?" She said. Me and Jordyn turned around and I sighed. "Is your name Jasmine? Off you go to registration" she signalled to Jordyn
"What?" I said simply
"Don't give me cheek. What was that look for just then? I let you in didn't I?"
"Don't know what you're on about" I lied
"Yes you do. Is it because Mrs Carter rang your mum?"
"Might be..."
"Well do I look like Mrs Carter to you? No. So take your face somewhere else" she said. She was not someone to be messed with, I realised that on my first day of school yet I still push her buttons. "Look, you didn't do your assignment so you brought it on yourself. Simple as." I huffed.
"Can I go now?" She nodded before telling me she doesn't want it to happen again.
"So your mum kicked your out?" Nathan said as we walked into first period, science.
"Sh! I don't want these knowing my business. But yeah she did. Mrs Carter rang home and it got pretty heated between me and mum and before I knew it Cole threw my stuff at me and pushed me out the door" I whispered, shuddering at the mention of his name.
"So where you at now?" He asked as Mrs diamond did the register
"Staying at Jord's but will probably move on on Monday, if you wanna take me in" I said laughing at the last bit
"You're always welcome"
"Nice one" I said as my name was called. "Here" I answered.
The day went on, and we were sat in Mrs Carter's English lesson, which thank god was the last lesson of the day and week. "Jasmine, you're rather quiet today, why don't you have a go at being King Lear?" She asked
"Oh my god! One day you're telling me I'm too loud and disruptive and the next you're telling me I'm too quiet! Fucking make up your mind!" I yelled, standing up and pushing the chair back at the same time. The class fell silent, with Mellisa mouthing 'what are you doing' to me. "I'm fucking sick of this school and everyone in it!" I yelled once more, finally exploding every emotion that's been building up, picking my bag up and storming out of the room and down the long corridor. This is all her fault, if she hadn't rang my mum I would have a roof over my head and not scrounging off my mates. If my mum had actually been a proper mum then I wouldn't have had to get that stupid job and then I wouldn't be so far behind in school, and then Mrs Carter wouldn't have rang her.
"Jasmine Washington! Get back here now!" I heard being yelled down the corridor. My mind told me to just keep going, but my body froze out of fear. Not the full name. Stay strong. I slowly turned round, seeing Mrs Carter charging towards me looking very pissed off. "WHO! Who do you think you are yelling at!" I didn't reply. "Oh so I'm talking to a wall now am I?" I still said nothing. "You had a lot to say back there! What's the matter, cat got your tongue?"
"Sorry" I said lowly.
"Speak up child!"
"Sorry!" I semi-shouted. Her face dropped again and she tensed up. I half cowered back in fear she would hit me. But she didn't.
"You never talk to me like that again! Or anyone for that matter. Do you hear me?"
"Yes"
"Yes what?"
