Hellooo, sorry for the slow updates, ✨I got uni work and assignments baaaaaaby✨
Shawn's POV
"Happy birthday dad." Jasmine said before going upstairs. My heart melted.
"Aw baby." Bey said, coming over and putting her arms around my waist. "You cheesing."
"I can't help it. We're a proper lil family."
"We sure are."
"Just waiting for her to call you mom now, but not by accident." I said and she eyed me.
"Shawn, we really can't rush this. I only agreed to adopting her today, and she doesn't even know that. Besides, I'm not her mom anyway."
"You've been more of a mom to her than I've been her dad." I told her, and she shrugged. "Heck you've been more of a mom to her than her own mom."
"Shawn please don't talk like that. I'd hate for her to feel like I was replacing her own mom."
"Is that why you took so long to decide?" I asked.
"I just don't wanna rush into things. Things that she might not even want. Think how you'd feel, being 15, had a shitty upbringing, then you get moved in with your teacher because your own mother couldn't give a damn about you, find out her husband is actually your dad, and they've got twins on the way. All in the space of what, 6 weeks?" I guess she had a point.
"I mean I guess, but it's not 6 weeks though is it. It's been like that her whole life. My mom was saying Kym didn't really want nothing to do with Jas when she was living with her, that's why she worked or partied most of the time. Then they moved back to Houston and they had 3 years together before she lost her job and turned to drugs and drink. Her whole life has been full of confusion. We're just giving her what she's needed her whole life, stability, a family, love and care. That's all anyone should get." I told her.
"I guess, and I will adopt her. I'm just saying I don't wanna rush things that's all, she's still quite closed off. We need her to come to us for things, not the other way round. We need her to tell us how she's feeling, not us asking all the time."
"Okay, so how about we file for adoption now, ready for Christmas, and if by then you're not quite feeling it, then we'll wait a bit longer?" I suggested and she sighed before nodding. "The baby news probably unsettled her a bit, we both saw how her face dropped and how quiet she went, but then she kinda got out of that after you told her she was here to stay, how she's part of the family no matter what. I honestly think you adopting her will give her more sense of security and that she really is part of the family."
"I know, I know, and we will, or I will. I will do it." She reassured me.
"I meant what I said, you've been more of a parent to that child than anyone has." I said, pecking her lips and she smiled softly, breathing out. "Where's my birthday present then?" I asked, looking at my wife, before softly kissing her lips.
"She's right here." She chuckled, deepening the kiss. I picked her up and carried her over to the cinema room, almost throwing her onto the long couch. The kids don't know what happens in here. I slowly climbed on top of her as we kissed, whispering things that only we can whisper to each other. I was unbuckling my jeans when I heard a phone go off.
"Jesus Bey, turn it off." I said, assuming it was hers.
"Hey, this isn't me. I don't even have my phone on me."
"Sorry." I chuckled, pulling my phone out of my pocket.
"Sexually frustrated, I get it." She laughed back.
