Chapter Eleven:

A Lover to Rile You Up

"Why Ruslan, I didn't think I'd see the day where I didn't have to blackmail someone into receiving an invitation into the Konstantin household!" A cheery voice exclaimed as he stepped into my office, my brothers trailing behind him with cheesy grins.

"Ulysses," I stated dryly, looking away from Kanjax. "A pleasure, as always." I said, the sarcasm evident.

A man stood before my brothers, someone I've known for far too long. He stood at about five foot six, far shorter than any werewolf he accompanied, donning a white dress shirt and tan slacks. In his mid-twenties he acted rather childish for his age, but I wasn't acquainted with him for his personality. His occupation was more of my concern.

Ulysses tossed me a wide grin as he ran a hand through his thick brown hair, his black eyes gleaming with mischief. "Why you sound almost pained to see me, little wolf!"

At that remark I couldn't help but to growl at the annoying human. "I am not little."

"A human?" Kanjax interrupted from his seat before me, glancing between Ulysses and I.

"Indeed," Vladislav confirmed as he and Alexei stepped further inside my office. "Ulysses here is a local cop on Ruslan's payroll."

"Detective." Ulysses corrected, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his slacks. "And speaking of my job, I heard two people were found mauled in your woods recently." He stated, his childish tone flattening out to one of serious caution.

I shrugged leaning back in my chair as I felt Kanjax's curious gaze burning a hole in my skin. "I'll be blunt, I lost my shit."

Ulysses narrowed his eyes, taking a step towards me. "That's all you have to say? That you lost your shit?"

I couldn't help but to clench my fists in anger as he blatantly challenged me, within reason or not. "Yes, Ulysses. I lost my shit. However, if you're so curious I'll gladly show you just what you missed out on." I said, snapping my elongated canines at him.

Ulysses kept his mouth closed, jaw tensed. It was obvious he wasn't taking our meeting all too well this morning, despite his usual liking for me. Vladislav, sensing the rising tension, made his way over to me.

He leaned down to my ear, whispering in such a hushed tone that even a wolf would have trouble hearing it. "Don't forget why you invited him here, sestra."

I huffed as Vladislav pulled away and stood behind me. "My... Apologies." I said, begrudgingly, to the shocked surprise of both Kanjax and Ulysses. "I did not mean to slaughter your citizens in my hunger, nor did I mean to brush it off as something minuscule. However, that was not the reason for having called you here. Or have you already forgotten?"

Confusion fluttered across Ulysses face as he took a moment to ponder over what I said. To my left I heard a snicker and I turned my gaze upon my brother to see him suppressing his laughter. I followed his gaze to Kanjax who seemingly did not like being left out of a conversation. His lips were pursed, and a dark look filtered through his stormy gaze. Those large hands of his fiercely gripped his knees, as if he had forgotten that I shattered them earlier. The white witch must've done a hell of a repair job on him.

"Something you wish to say, Beta?" I prompted, feeling somewhat breathless when his stormy gaze turned on me.

He didn't even take a moment to consider his words. "That human and you, what is the relation between you two?" Kanjax's questioned, speaking as though Ulysses wasn't in the room.
