Hey guys! I know that I said that you would get a chapter last night, but I ended up just watching Merlin and scrolling through Instagram. I am also working on that request (you know who you are) and should have it out today or tomorrow. I'm home sick today, so I should be able to get some chapters done today. If not, please forgive me. Happy reading!

Third POV

Arthur and Merlin were walking in the lower town. Merlin had suggested that Arthur got to know the people of his kingdom before he became king. And it was proving to be a good idea, they had received several gifts such as flowers and even a chicken. They were getting to the bad part of the lower town when they heard a scream.

"What was that, Merlin?"

"It was a scream, sire. This is the bad part of town, it's sure to happen. We can go look at it if you wish."

"Let's do that then. It should be quick." So, they went to the source of the scream and found a young boy.

"Merlin, what is this? What do we do?"

"Sire, I know you're not the brightest, but please use your eyes once and a while, this is a child. Now, stay back and let me talk to him so that I can know what happened." Arthur stayed back as Merlin walked forward. The boy was crying violently, Merlin would have to calm him down before he could get any answers from him.

"Hello there, my name is Merlin. What's yours?" The boy didn't respond. "That's alright, do you know what happened?" Still no response. "Do you know where your parents are?" Still no response.

"He won't talk to you. He hasn't talked in two years." The voice was small and quiet, it came from a young girl, about the age of seven. "He's my twin brother. He stopped talking when our mother died. He screamed because our father died."

"But, you're not crying. Why?" A flash of sadness raced through her eyes.

"He wasn't the best father. Thought that I should've learned to cook and clean- like my mother. If I didn't do what he wanted me to, I would be punished. So that's why I'm not crying. He wasn't a father to me."

"I'm truly sorry about that. What are your names?"

"My name is Mallory but people call me 'Runt'" How she spat the word showed that she didn't like the name. "His name is Kadin."

"Well, Mallory, how about you and Kadin come with me to the palace? You can stay with me for a little bit."

"Who's with you?"

"Do you not recognize him?"

"I'm not let out often."

"This is Prince Arthur." She flinched when she heard the name. Not a big flinch, just big enough for Merlin to see.

"Don't worry. He won't hurt you. I won't let him." The words were spoken with a smirk.

"You have authority over the prince? I thought only the king had authority over him."

"No, I have much authority over him. He can't do anything without me knowing about it."

"Don't be getting a big head now, Merlin. You won't fit in that training amour."

Mallory once again flinched. She didn't like it when he talked, good to know. "Mallory, I promise you, he won't hurt you. You're safe from now on. I know you don't want to talk about it, but how did your father die?"

"He was killed. He was in with some bad people that he owed some money. They came and Kadin and I hid in the back room and they killed him."

"I'm sorry about that. Do you want to go to the palace with me? You can stay with me in the physician's chambers until we find you somewhere better to stay."

She nodded and went over to her brother. She spoke softly to him, telling them where they were going.

As they walked back to the palace, Mallory clung to Merlin like a lifeline. Kadin was following close behind.

"When did you get so good with children, Merlin? Last thing I knew, they hated you."

"I've always been good with people. Children are just little people."

"You never cease to amaze me. You know that?"

"I do."
