Heyo mah dudes! I have so many drafts right now. I just can't bring myself to finish them. That's mostly why I'm on hiatus. I will finish them soon enough, just not today. Anyways, happy reading!!
I've known about the destiny for quite a while now. Merlin doesn't think that I do, but here were are. I also know that I'm supposed to die. And that Merlin has magic. And that he's immortal. I read about the prophecy in the library one night. I know about the whole thing. And I've prepared myself.
One thing that I haven't done is prepare Gwen or Merlin. I know that Gwen will try to stay strong, but she will need help. So, I'll get Merlin to help her. And her to help him. Camelot will be strong with them. I'm also worried about Camelot. I know that Gwen will be a good queen for them, I just worry too much.
It's the night before the battle with Morgana, and I've prepared myself best as I can. I wrote Merlin and Gwen letters explaining everything. Now, I just need to get some sleep.
...
During the battle, I see a familiar face. I don't like this. I didn't read about how I would die. I know that the book said how, I just couldn't read it.
It's Mordred.
As he walks towards me, I can see the calm anger on his face. He has a sword in his hand and looks ready to kill.
As it turns out, he was.
He ran me through.
And I died.
(Yeah I changed it. Deal with it. I don't want to write all that other stuff).
Third POV
One day after the battle, Camelot heard of Arthur's passing. The whole kingdom was silent.
Two days after his passing, Gwen moved to a different room. There were too many memories in her old one.
As she was moving out, she had a panic attack. It was from all of the stress in her life and Arthur's dying catching up with her. What started the attack was his shirt. The red one. It was set out on top of his desk. Merlin was supposed to put it away, but he had to rush to Gaius' chambers.
Merlin was the only one that could calm her down. He quickly put the shirt in the wardrobe and locked it.
"I'll finish up here, Gwen. Go rest. You've been awake for three days. Even you need rest. And you need to eat. Don't even try to argue with me on this. I will get Gaius to give you a sleeping draft." His voice held so much emotion, but it was also so empty.
"Thank you, Merlin. Are you sure you can get this finished?"
"Go to sleep. I'll wake you up If anything happens. Promise." He crossed his heart and gently pushed Gwen out of the room.
As Merlin moved Arthur's things, he noticed two pieces of parchment on Arthur's desk. They were folded so that none of the writing was visible. On the side that was visible, Merlin and Gwen had been written in Arthur's sloppy handwriting.
After a moment of not being able to do anything, Merlin took the parchment and quietly placed it in Gwen's room and took his to his room.
After moving everything that Gwen would want, he began putting Arthur's things away in crates.
He did end up keeping two things of Arthur's. He kept Arthur's crystal necklace and his quill. Merlin also figured that Gwen would want something to remember him by, so he kept Arthur's ring for her as soon as she could look at something of his without having a panic attack.
"Merlin! What is this? Where did it come from?" Gwen asked him in a panicked voice.
After taking a deep breath, he told her, "I found it when I was cleaning. He left them for us. I got one too."
"What did it say?"
"I can't bring myself to read it yet. Have you read yours?"
She slowly nodded and held the paper out for him to take.
My love,
Sorry that I had to leave you. I knew that this day would come. There are some things that you need to know. I can't tell you everything, but I will tell what I can.
I was part of a prophecy with Merlin. I was supposed to unite the land of Albion. That's not going to happen, obviously. I was supposed to receive help from Merlin, and you know how that turned out. He's always been useless.
That's what I thought anyways. As it turns out, he has saved my life more times than I can say right now.
I don't want you to go through this alone. Never forget that you have a whole army of knights that you can lean on. And my idiot servant. I want you to give him any job he wants. If he wants to be your secretary, let him. He managed to keep me in line, and I was a mess.
I need you to keep Merlin alive. He's been with me for so long that he might not know how to function without me.
I want you to unite the land. Rule over it. There is no other person that can do it as well as you could.
Make magic legal.
Remember to take care of yourself. Eat when you need to. Sleep often. Get a break from ruling. Don't become engrossed in ruling that you lose yourself.
Love,
ArthurWith tears in his eyes, Merlin whispered something indecipherable.
"What did you say? Merlin?"
Gwen managed to break him from his thoughts eventually.
"He knew he was going to die. And he didn't do anything. He knew about the prophecy. I-I have to go. Get some more rest if you can. You only got three hours." Before he could receive a response, he was zooming down the hall.
Bursting through the door to Gaius' chambers, he didn't stop to say 'hello'. The physician called after him, but he was to deep in thought to care about what he was saying.
Going to the parchment, he unfolded it and began to read.
Merlin,
I knew about the prophecy. And your magic. I knew that I would die at the battle. There was nothing that you could do to change that. Don't blame yourself for my death. I know how your mind works.I want you to help Gwen through this. I'll tell her to do the same for you. You can have any job in the kingdom.
I came upon the prophecy one day while I was reading. I know that you have magic. I'm not upset. Tell Gwen if you want to. Help her unite the kingdoms. I figure that you know about the prophecy as well. Probably for quite a while longer than I have.
I want you to do some things for me.
Make sure that Gwen takes care of herself. Take care of yourself and the knights. Don't let anyone cry alone. If there's one thing that I've learned about you, it's that it doesn't take much to get you to cry. Take care of my horse for me. You're the only other person that she lets ride her.
That's really it. Just one more thing. I also read that one day, I'll be coming back. So just remember...
I'm going away for a while, but I'll be back. Don't even think about following me.
-Arthur
With hot tears, Merlin silently vowed to do what Arthur asked of him. Because, god damnit, he was going to be the best servant ever.
