Sorry about how long it's been taking me to get chapters out. Enjoy! Got this idea from a post on Instagram
TW: gore (kinda but not really?)
When they first met, sparks flew. Literally. As the fight wore on, Merlin became increasingly more desperate; not to win, but to survive. He was able to grab a chain from a vendor and use the last of his strength to save himself from one more blow of the mace. Only one, with two hits on the chain, it broke. And a third hit Merlin and killed him. The prince was devastated when he figured it out. All of the knights had always lasted at least five blows, so why did he only last three?
Only three people showed up to the service. More than most peasant funerals. Gaius, Gwen and a short appearance from Arthur. Gaius was there for obvious reasons. Gwen because she had met him once before and he seemed like someone she would've gotten along with. And Arthur because he felt bad about killing him.
Five years later, Arthur was somehow still alive. He was king and Morgana was not evil. Mordred was living peacefully in a Druid camp and Gwen was queen. All seemed to be looking good for Camelot.
Until one day.
There had been little storms that barely kept the crops alive, but on this day, the wind raged and the rain pounded down on the town. Several structures were ruined by the shield sized hail and torn apart by the howling wind. Trees fell due to lightning striking them and started several small fires all over the place that were immediately put out by the rain.
The citizens were taking shelter in the castle, where the hail had the least likely chance of getting through.
"Arthur, this is a magic storm. I can feel it. Whoever is making it is stronger than you can imagine." Morgana told her brother.
"How do we make it stop?" Leon asked from his spot at the table (not the round table, I truly believe that the whole reason that that's a thing is bc of Merlin. Also Gwaine, Lance and Percival aren't knights bc Merlin isn't there and I think he's the entire reason they're knights.).
"We can't. This isn't the type of storm that I can stop easily. We need to find the warlock controlling the storm and convince them to stop."
Arthur stood up, "Nobody can come with me, this is probably my fault- as most things are these past few years- so I'm going alone. Stay here and keep everyone inside."
There were words of protest, but only Morgana got to go. It made sense so she could seek out the powerful being with her magic.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?"
"Arthur, if we don't find this warlock and ask them to stop the storm then they won't stop. They won't get tired for several years with the energy they're using. We have to do this."
They ventured out to the castle gates and saw a boy. He seemed familiar somehow, but they knew that they'd never met him before. He seemed to be five, maybe a little older. His black hair contrasted against his pale skin and his eyes were gold at the moment, but they could tell that they were blue.
He was strolling along outside the gates with a small happy smile on his face. "Isn't it beautiful?" He asked.
"Can you stop it?"
"Arthur! Let me take care of this, please."
"You don't like it? I made it really pretty for you." The boy said with a sad voice.
"It's wonderful. Can you stop it though? You're going to ruin the castle with it. I do have some questions about it though." Morgana called out to him over the storm. With another flash of his eyes, the storm calmed to a drizzle. "Thank you. My name is Morgana, what's yours?"
He looked at her, "Merlin, that's what I was told anyways."
Morgana tilted her head, "What do you mean, 'That's what I was told'? Didn't your mother name you?"
"No. I was born then taken from my mother. I was raised by a fae (fey? I don't know). They told me my name was Merlin." He shook his head, "Anyways, that's not why I'm here. Morgana, if you wouldn't mind leaving. Your precious brother won't come to any harm. Just go back to the castle and you'll all be fine."
Morgana nodded respectfully at him and began to walk away. "Good, now that she's gone, we can get down to business. Do you remember me, Arthur Pendragon?"
"I do not. Should I?"
"Oh, I don't know. You probably should know the kid you killed," The words were spoken like venom, this wasn't the same kid that was talking a few moments ago. This was a dark spirit, a corrupted soul.
"I've not killed any children like you."
"But I wasn't a child when you killed me." He morphed into his sixteen year old self, "Remember me now?"
Arthur took a step back from him. "It can't be you."
"So you do remember me then." He laughed as he morphed back into his five year old form.
"I've been traumatized every night since it happened by your face. You have to forgive me."
"You know, I was supposed to save you." The prince looked down in confusion, how could this boy save him? The strongest warrior in Camelot? It's almost like he forgot that this child was controlling a raging storm without any effort. "Its kinda ironic, because I'm going to be the one to kill you."
In an instant, the prince had snapped his head up to look at the boy. He tried to run, but there were vines holding his feet to the ground.
"Oh, don't try to run. It's useless."
"Why do you want to kill me? What have I done to you?"
"Seriously?"
"Ok, ok. So I killed you. Honest mistake, right? I didn't mean to."
"Oh, you're right. It was just an honest mistake. Why should the prince have to pay for a mistake?"
"So, are we good? I'll just go back to the castle and forget this ever happened?" Arthur turned around best he could with his feet bound to the ground.
"No, no," Merlin chuckled softly. "You're going to pay for this. I'm going to kill you. After I take the kingdom from you. I will rule the kingdom and they won't cower at my feet like they did you and your father."
"You will be nothing but a tyrant!" Arthur spat.
"If that makes you feel better, then sure." Merlin said as he sat down next to Arthur and smiled sweetly up at him. "You know, I was born with magic. Spent life thinking I was a monster. So, the day I came back, I decided I might as well be known as."
