a week later
dashawn pov

I woke up to Antwan jumping on my chest.

He smiled at me. He was so happy despite everyone's misery. Jayda disappeared without a trace. Nothing was adding up.

If she needed help why couldn't she speak up or leave me a warning of where to find her.

Her making it seem like a breakup gave this person an almost 24 hour head start.

Hakeem was my only lead and me going to jail have him the head start he needed to disappear.

It felt like everyone was ahead of me. I don't like being in this position trying to play catch-up.

I sighed thinking about her. You would think whoever took her would contact us by now to tell us what they want. But there's been nothing.

I had no leads. I was just stuck here trying to figure it out.

I picked up Antwan and headed to the bathroom so we could brush our teeth.

Every time I see him I think of Jayda.

I just hope she not suffering. I hope she alive.

Today was Aaron's funeral. He was Drew's brother. I knew Drew would be having a hard time so I would go to be there for him.

I found a nice outfit for Antwan them put on a suit for myself.

When I got us dressed and fed, we got in the car and made our way to the church where the service was being held.

I found a seat near the back and took it with Antwan in my lap.

There was only one word to describe this funeral: heartbreaking.

Aaron was well known around the city. He had good standings with the kids as well as adults. Everyone was hurt over this loss.

After the service I made my way to the burial.

Once again, I stood to the back. By now Antwan slept on my shoulder as I listened to everyone say their goodbyes.

After a while, Drew spotted me and made his way over.

We dapped each other up before I shifted Antwan to my other shoulder.

"How you holdin up?"

"Still hurt to see him go. But Ima be aight." he said stuffing his hands in his pockets.

Drew was a kid, still. I wouldn't expect this much strength from him but he had it. That's one of the main reasons why I liked him I guess. He remind me of myself when my parents died.

I guess I look out for him the way Jay looked out for me.

"Andrew!" a woman who looked in her forties yelled walking over.

"Yeah, ma."

"Go over there with your grandparents."

"Just a min-"

"Now." she said and he sighed shooting me a I'm sorry look before walking away.

The woman turned to me and shot me a deadly glare before reaching up slapping me.

I kept my composure letting it slide since she was grieving.

"How dare you show up here?" she said with tears forming. "You already took one of my sons what you want the other one too?"
