Helm had not moved. Let alone made a single sound. Shelyn didn’t understand why he didn’t try helping her. Why he just lay there. Did her weight not hurt him?
Shelyn was still curled on the floor in utter terror. What had she done to deserve all of this? All she wanted was to spread beautiful music. And now.... now labelled as an object to a man who only thought that was her only worth.
Calion, now that he was alone with her, walked over and reached a hand down. “I apologize for my brother’s actions. I know it’s quite important that you not lay with someone you don’t love, and I do actually intend, should we get so far, for you to care for me before we do that. He shouldn’t have been allowed to enter this room…. And I promise I am equally upset at the guard who had allowed this to happen. Are you alright, at least… as alright as you could be given the circumstances? And Helm too?” Calion asked. He doubted she’d thank him… it wasn’t even worth asking for, besides he felt mildly guilty considering this wouldn’t have happened if he kept her on a tighter leash.
She partially flinched away from. A simple reflex given the situation. Even if he meant his words. How could she believe them? "He...lay me over him...he didn’t move..." she informed him. "He never moved or made a sound..."
Helm's eyes were open. And though his head was tilted to face towards the door, his eyes were looking up. An arm over his chest as if he was trying to grab. And the other limp in its place at his side. not even his chest moved with a breath. Yet he still had yet to make a sound. He was so injured how could he rest with Shelyn being on his broken legs as she was.
“Odd. He should have at least mumbled something… he was getting better, even if his memory was shot. Hold on.” He walked over to Helm’s side, pressing two fingers against the male’s neck trying to check for a pulse.
“Fuck how could this have happened?! His hearts not…. It’s not beating Shelyn. Isn’t there some technique to try and restart a heart that had stopped? I’ve seen it before! It was done on my father many years ago, but I don’t know or remember, can you, do you know anything?” Calion said in a concerned tone, referring to CPR though he didn’t know how to do it. Instead he called out for help, hoping a nurse might come. Neither knew that air was injected into his veins, he only hoped the male wasn’t too far gone… it hadn’t been longer than fifteen or twenty minutes since they had left him… although it was odd Helm would take such a severe turn for the worst.
“If you can save him Shelyn, do it! Now’s your time to show you can pick up the slack for your parents.”
Shelyn stood, still shaking. She leaned in and started to move her brother properly. she started cpr but even doing it she knew it was for nothing. She gave it 2mins. But he wasn’t moving.
By then a nurse entered. Shelyn asked for several tools. The nurse handed them each to her. She checked his breathing. She asked for some kind of candle anything to provide light.
She was given a candle. She used it to check his eyes. but nothing.
"How long was I with you? After you lead me away...how long were we gone?" She asked. This was very important. And she gave him a stern and serious look.
She counted 5 minutes with Yun in the room alone. Plus, another 3 at least in the hall.
“How long…” He bit his cheek, eyes shifting up as he thought back… it was probably only a three minute walk to his bedroom, and then because Shelyn hadn’t put up much of a fight the whole exam of him touching her he doubted it lasted more than five minutes even if it felt like an eternity while he stroked and prodded against her flower. “No more than 10 minutes I imagine.” He said, while he stood rather useless nearby. Medical attention was out of his knowledge.
“What do you think? Do we still have time to save him?” Calion asked, he didn’t suspect his brother of actually being the one to cause Helm’s death. His brother was an immature asshole, but he didn’t think he’d stoop to be a murderer. It was rather shocking his brother even tried raping Shelyn… perhaps he knew less of his own kin than he thought.
"4 to 6 minutes...that is all the time I would have had to restart his heart…if it happened...if it happened while I was gone it would have been too late. Even if I noticed without Yun and that whole mess...if I did manage, he would be nothing more than a vegetable. We would have to buy machines to even breath for him. He wouldn’t be able to talk or move.... Nurse...you can remove the tubes now..." she turned away from her brother. And walked away. Leaving the room and making her way outside. Just somewhere to get some air.
The nurse apologized to Calion then lifted the sheets that exposed all of Helm to the world. She started removing everything. Well anything that was put in him. She cleaned him up even. This was horrible. it seemed nothing was going right.
Calion’s mood was understandably deflated. Not only did Shelyn have to suffer through nearly being raped, but now her own brother who she cherished would so deeply had passed away… all because he had taken her out of the room. Undoubtedly, she hated him… probably more so than she hated Yun at this moment.
“Just do what you can. Clean him up… if we’re going to have a funeral pyre he should at least be dressed in fine clothing and presentable to the world. If you need help dressing him in his armor you may recruit some guards to help. We’ll schedule his burning for tomorrow.” Calion said, leaving as he felt Shelyn deserved some time alone.
As he left, he was approached by Mirien who saw no issue in being handsy with him and touching her lord. “Quite the riot. Do my ears deceive me, or has Yun been imprisoned? He must have done something quite bad to get on your bad side like this. Let me guess, it’s from that little blonde gash, huh? Why don’t you just fuck her and move along. She’s nothing special… she’ll bleed and cry just like all the other ones you’ve taken. If you want a /real/ good time why don’t you come back to bed with me? I’ve got a special place you can fill if you like, my pharaoh~” Mirien said, clinging to him and talking sweetly, despite Calion’s mind being the furthest from sex at this moment.
The nurse nodded. Offering her pharaoh, the stuffed toy from beside Helm's head. "Please...make sure she gets this. I’m told her home was burned down today. If it is true, this is her last physical memory..." she told him and did exactly as told. she called in the guards and had them help her bathe him properly. Then they put him to bed and covered him. Such a sad sight to see a soldier in such a state. Many found him charming and always smiling. He was a very kind and helpful. This was sad.
Shelyn had actually wandered the grounds. Finding the stairs near Calion's room where she finally sat and just zoned out.
"Sure." Calion said in a soft voice, he only half listened to the nurse as his mind was upon other matters, more specifically related to Shelyn and what exactly was going to become of her life now that for all intents and purposes her entire family was gone. He spent a solid fifteen minutes wandering about the palace trying to find her and of course he wasn't expecting to have found her at the stairs to his bedroom. If anything, he would have imagined she'd be as far away as possible from his room.
He had simply walked away from Mirien earlier, not in the mood to consider laying with the woman, it would hardly be in good taste to go bed someone when he'd just so recently saw a dead man.
"I didn't expect to find you here. Then again... I suppose you feel like you don't have a proper home to even go to now, huh?" He sat the stuffed animal in her lap before walking past her. "Come along. I suppose we should figure out what we're going to do with you." He said, a roundabout way of inviting her in and saying this can be her temporary room to share until a more proper one is prepared for her, that is... if he decided she should get her own room.
Shelyn hugged the little stuffed bunny as she stood. Following him. She truthfully didn’t know what to do. Did she even still have a debt to pay since, well nothing got done really.
She sat on the bed. At the foot and lay down. Like a sad child might do. her blonde hair hanging off the bed. She couldn’t think of what to say to Calion.
Yun was busy cursing his guards.
Jin was alone. He missed Shelyn. He wondered if her brother was done needing her yet. He wandered towards Calion's room.
Calion took a seat near her, but with how she laid she wouldn't have a clear view of him. They sat in silence for a couple minutes before he hesitantly placed his hand on her outer thigh. A gesture of comfort, not one of trying to get physical with her. "With no Father and now no brother you are without an owner. By default, you have no rights and, in most cases,, what would happen is if any man now walks up to you and asks for your hand you are obligated to say yes to the first one. Those men can then do with you as they want. Some may try and auction you off, some may want you as their wife, others may have other uses for you such as employing you as a prostitute for others to enjoy."
"So, as has been previously established I will be the first to enact my ownership over you. This will protect you from living such a life should any man come to you with desires. Now, it doesn't necessarily need to be permanent, in truth I could sell or trade you off in the future and you'd be under the 'care' of another. That being said... I want you to know that I do have a heart and understand all that you have suffered over these last 24 hours." He sighed, shifting to lay alongside her, spooning her as his arms wrapped around her and he pressed his lips against the back of her neck. "I won't mistreat you Shelyn. You don't need to lay with me, for the moment I just want you to try and piece your life together, to find a reason to live. If you truly don't want to be mine, then I will walk you down to the market place and maybe you'll be bought by someone you like better."
She listened. But the embrace was probably more comforting than he realized. She rolled over. Facing him. She buried her face against his neck and finally sobbed. What reason did she have?
"May...I please keep the land you gave my parents?" She whimpered. It was her happy place. It was the place she loved to be and to care for.
Jin walked in. After all, Calion was like his father. "Calion? Can Shelyn play now?" He called out entering the room. Seeing the two on the bed he basically scurried over. and wiggled his way in between them. Cuddling in close to her in a baby kind of way. And she let him. Giving Calion a look of just really needing something to cling to. Jin was the perfect option. a mother and teacher if he had her.
As Jin scooted himself between he reluctantly felt her lips and her breaths back away from his neck, wanting nothing more than to hold her for a couple hours and let her sob against him as much as she wanted. But that was cut short, although Calion wasn't upset. Shelyn had lost her family, but if she wanted, she was being offered a new family even though it would never replace what she once had.
