Now the way it might look is that Shelyn set fire to her family home. Of course who truly believed she was even blessed at all. Did Calion? After all both her and Helm where bedridden. And had not left the palace. But she did call out 'fire'.
The question was now, did she have a vision or did she truly ruin her home in order to turn attention from the concubine who was responsible for her mistrust in the pharaoh?
Many were already there trying to put the fire out.
Calion’s eyes furrowed. It’s not as if the prospect of inspecting new servants was all that appealing, but he hadn’t felt as if he could do anything for Shelyn other than wait on her to get better. And besides it was his ‘duty’ to at least view what his citizens wanted to make for offerings, but all of that was thrown out the window once it was announced her parents’ home was ablaze. ‘What the fuck is going on today?’ as it seemed everything was falling apart. It wasn’t lost on him that just prior to this the room had a burning smell, or the fact Shelyn herself murmured ‘fire’. There could be two explanations. Either she saw it as a premonition, the goddess she was blessed by giving her sight beyond mere mortal sight, or alternatively it could be viewed as sinister, such like a witch who did something to set the home on fire.
All he knew was it was paramount her parents stay alive and so without stalling Calion got up and ignored Mirien to head out to see the fire and hoping her parents were okay. Without them Helm’s recovery would be slowed, and alternatively Shelyn would be orphaned. Coupled with the debt her family had accumulated in trying to heal Helm she might not ever work her way out of being a servant since her parents would no longer be able to work off the debt with their medical skills either.
“Calion.” Mirien said, chasing after. “Their family is cursed. Look what has happened to her brother. Now her, and now her parents. The gods are unhappy with her family, you bring risk to all that live in this city by keeping her near. Even you might be harmed at some point… all for what? Her petite frame and blonde hair? I have many who I can find to suit your tastes.”
The fire was put out by the time Calion arrived. Luckily the garden had been watered and few plants were harmed. However, this was the only good news. The staff managed to pull out only her father. Who was in a state of no recovery? He offered a servant a burned paper that he tried keeping safe. Then due to pain and inhaling the smoke passed on.
The servant offered Calion the paper. Yun had been out there helping but couldn’t believe what had happened.
The letter was only stated that they pay for their son's treason by giving up their daughter.
An eye for an eye it seemed. Whatever Helm had gotten into meant it followed him back and Shelyn was the only one to fulfill the debt. Clearly it was refused since her parents and home were burned down.
Her voice drove Helm up a wall. And next the air popped around her just to get her to leave. Truly this room was cursed. How couldn’t it be?
Calion was dumbstruck, how had things turned so bad so quickly? The fact he’d not seen her mother made him assume the worst, and the severe burns upon the father made it apparent that the male would not survive… this would undoubtedly cripple Shelyn and leave her depressed, perhaps even make her give up on living. He took the paper that had been saved… piecing it together in his mind as it seemed her parents were planning to offer up Shelyn to another, even after she was already owned by Calion now. What exactly had Helm done? Depending upon the nature of what he got into… it would be viewed as treasonous. Not only would Helm have people after him, but by extension now he had cost Calion two of his best doctors.
Gritting his teeth, he was not looking forward to informing Shelyn of her parents… then again perhaps she already knew if she could see the fire in her mind. On top of that he now wanted Helm to awake as soon as possible so he could explain just what the hell was going on.
Left alone in the room Mirien glared at Shelyn. Ever since the girl had shown up things had been going to hell. She was of mind to fix matters before Calion fell further under her spell. Scheming the woman even considered popping Shelyn’s virtue if only to make it seem like Shelyn had lied to Calion about her status. As her hand trailed up the girl’s thigh the air began to pop, further suggesting the girl was a witch. This got Mirien to run out just as Calion was hurrying back. “Don’t go in my pharaoh, that girl… she’s possessed by something evil. There’s an ominous aura in the air, I fear she will bring nothing but death to those who get close.” Mirien said, unaware that her assumption was true given the fact that her parents had just died, and Helm was on the edge.
Shelyn called for Calion in her sleep. Weakly. "Cal..ion....." "cal...." she hurt.
Her father and mother were killed for not giving Shelyn up. After all, how could they when she was someone else's literally. All the doctors could hope was that Calion wouldn’t think they were scheming. They were respected after all. And had given pharaoh their sons and daughters. They worked tirelessly for him.
"Ca..lion!" Shelyn sobbed. Who else could she call now? Helm was near death and Calion was the only one, according to himself she could rely on. Gods after all.
The room had calmed with Calion nearby. Silent expect for the sobbing Shelyn calling for Calion. The nurse just standing there silent and clueless as to what was happening.
Helm had managed in this state to still protect Shelyn. Even if the nurse couldn’t speak out of just seeing the concubine touching on Shelyn. Well she could. But not while she was there.
Calion paused momentarily, Mirien’s words had reached him and in truth he felt uneasy about the family all the more. He’d not witnessed the extent of Shelyn’s powers, but it was unsettling enough to know she could cause plants to die, and if she could do that, what else was she capable of? Of course, though, revered as a god himself he would not run scared. If anything, this produced a challenge for him to overcome. To bend whatever god had blessed Shelyn over and lay claim to it just as he did to anything else, he wanted.
Calion entered the room moving to Shelyn’s side. “I’m here, don’t worry, I’ll keep you both safe.” At least until he better figured out what was happening. He shooed Mirien away, ordering the nurse to move the candles to the edges of the room, making sure no cloth or anything flammable was near them in case they fell over. Unless fire decided to randomly ignite something there was no way harm would come to those in this room.
“Shelyn… something has happened to your parents. And unfortunately, from what I gather, Helm has done something. Something which he could have only paid off by giving you up to another. I don’t believe it is wise you be near him until he awakes and can explain what has happened…” He said, knowing she likely wouldn’t like the idea… he would tell her that due to him her parents were killed if he had to.
The nurse did as told and then moved to his side to inform him of what she had seen before the concubine ran to him.
