Shelyn tried even harder now to not fall to her knees in agony. Just blankly staring towards Amarie. Her chest tight and words gone. She had nothing left.
"It’s fine...please just bring it out to the table and make Jin a plate first. He should eat soon so he can enjoy a dessert before bed...." she replied in a sniffle. If smelt wonderful. And she tried to smile but it wasn’t there. Even trying to focus on her motherly duty seemed....pointless. "and...don’t expect to return to your room tonight...I’m going to need you to run a few more errands after you serve dinner...they can’t wait."
She pulled away from Jin and looked at his smiling face. "You should tell her thank you for needing you. It’s polite and happy servants mean they will do their jobs with smiles." She informed him. She wanted to Jin to be...anything that wasn’t Calion. A thank you instead of gifts. Even if Amarie needed Jin, he should tell her thank you since he was getting fed.
Jin blinked. Looking at Amarie. He didn’t get it. She was supposed to do the work. Why thank her for doing her job? "Do I have to? It’s her job...right?"
Amarie nodded her head “Of course, and yes, anything my lady.” Amarie said, genuinely enthusiastic after all she was dreading going back to her room tonight. She had no idea if Mirien noticed she was missing through the day and was fearful the woman would make her suffer for being assigned to a new mistress.
Amarie simply smiled to Jin. “It’s alright, so long as every one is pleased then that’s all the thanks I need.” She said, walking over as she uncovered the baked fish and cut a portion and plated it for Jin, giving him a side of pan fried vegetables which she had seasoned with left over herbs. “If you both would like to go to the dining room I’ll be right out with everyone’s dish.” Amarie suggested, wanting Shelyn to take a moment to relax as the girl seemed upset enough.
She set Jin’s plate down first before heading back to plate a dish for Shelyn and Calion, although the pharaoh had not yet come to the dining room yet.
Calion heard the sounds of dishes being set on the table in the next room and with his drink in hand approached the room in silence. Uncertain of what to say considering he knew Shelyn was hurting deeply. It was for the best that the servant girls were not around as he didn’t think Shelyn would appreciate him being fed by them.
“Nice to see you Jin, how was your evening?” He asked, trying to make small talk.
Jin gasped. Hurrying over and hugging his older brother. Forgetting at one point he assumed Calion upset Shelyn. "I helped make one of Shelyn's recipes for dinner." He said proudly.
Shelyn silently taking a seat at the table..her fingers twisting and fidgeting with her dress. She couldn’t look at Calion. Worried she might find him glaring at her or a hand print on his face. She feared she would probably be punished for it anyway.
Losing herself in thought for a bit.
“Did you now?” He said with a big smile, patting Jin’s head. “Between the two of you it smells absolutely divine. Who knows, if you like this sort of thing perhaps we can get you to help out in the kitchen more often?” He offered, it wasn’t typically a man’s place to be in the kitchen, but Calion didn’t see any harm in a man knowing how to cook especially if Jin had interest in it at least.
Amarie stepped out from the kitchen with two more plates in each hand to which she went on the right side of Calion first to serve him. “For you my Pharaoh. I hope it is to your liking, it is lady Shelyn’s recipe, but if it is displeasing then know the fault likely is my own and not hers.” She said before moving to serve Shelyn.
He shook his head. “It smells great. Thank you Shelyn for the thoughtful recipe, Jin for your help.” He lifted his eyes and placed them upon Amarie who was standing off in the corner, hands behind her back, waiting on if someone needed anything. “And you as well.” He said casually before beginning his meal.
The ‘thank you’ likely seemed barely fitting, but to Amarie it was nearly as good as being told she was a good girl and her cheeks flared at the fact the pharaoh would even say anything about her at all. After all she considered this Shelyn’s dinner, even if she was the one who cooked it. It was an honor for her that he even looked at her.
Quietly Calion ate and pondered to himself about what took place earlier. Naturally he wanted to forget the slap, but the fact of the matter was she embarrassed him in front of many.
“About earlier.” He said, not bringing up the topic specifically so that Jin wouldn’t know. “It’s alright. Amarie can handle it.” He said vaguely. The fact of the matter was, Shelyn was one who had a servant now and as such servants can be used to fill in for punishments for their masters. He also knew Shelyn wouldn’t want that, but perhaps this was her punishment now to have to consider that her actions now effect more than just herself. “I have some things you can look through in the living room when you’re ready.” He commented, again avoiding talk of Helm considering Jin was in the room.
Shelyn ate slowly. Barely if anything at all. "Amarie with you please head back to the market and gather me some clothes?" She sighed. Her gaze shifted from her food to Calion when he spoke. "I am afraid im not sure what you mean by that." She admitted. What was Amarie supposed to handle exactly in regards to earlier today.
"Why don't you make it clear so I understand." She snipped. Partly annoyed.
“O-Of course.” She bowed her head, feeling a bit awkward about leaving when the plates would still be left out, but she turned and headed out, taking a small bag of coin that was not hers, but that was allowed her to buy things for those she served. She had a similar frame to Shelyn so finding clothing to meet her size shouldn’t be an issue though she likely would be out for over an hour.
“To provide penance for less than desirable actions that had taken place earlier.” Calion said nonchalantly. In truth he had nothing planned for Amarie, and he didn’t want to physically reprimand Shelyn, so making Shelyn ‘think’ her servant was going to be disciplined for what she did would likely be enough discipline for Shelyn. It would have been different if she slapped him in private, but now the fact was that everyone saw the pharaoh struck, it would not do for those military men to think their pharaoh was weak or could not handle his woman.
"So then you'll have Mirien or one of your brothers killed as penance for Helm." She hissed back. Fiesty. Annoyed. Frustrated. Her angelic behavior covered by one of just unadulterated sorrow. It made her mean. And Calion was taking the blunt end of it. Simply because it was HIS army. HIS enemies. No matter what he said. He was pharaoh. As far as she was concerned he could lose what mattered most to him just like she did.
She pushed the plate away and stood. She didn't care right now. He should hurt too. Simple as that. She pushed in her chair and left back to the living room. Finding Helm's things and her father on the table.
Calion didn’t even offer a reply. It was ridiculous she even suggest such a thing, after all Mirien had nothing to do with Helm, and while Yun was a suspect he had no proof for the time being. Nevertheless as she left he let out a sigh and looked to Jin. “She’s having a difficult time what with the arson of her family home. You’re too young to remember, but I too was angry at the world when our mother and father unfairly passed into the sea.” He said, simply trying to give Jin a bit of context as to why Shelyn was upset.
“Tell you what, why don’t you go to the main kitchen and get yourself something sweet. It’s been a busy day for everyone though I’m sure things will look up in the morning.” Calion said, finishing his meal and retreating for some time to his bedroom.
After about 30minutes some arguing could be heard out from the main doors of Calion’s living quarters, a woman’s voice arguing with the guards.
“And I’m telling you I don’t give a fuck. Lay your hands on me one more time and I’ll have them removed!” The woman said, barging in wearing a silver top and bottom gown which left much of her skin revealed in suggestive ways, her long dark hair flowing behind her as she stormed past the living room area and saw Shelyn, offering the girl a glare though she didn’t much care about the fact Calion was fucking the young thing, she was more annoyed about something else.
Entering Calion’s bedroom she shut the door and looked over to her Pharaoh. “What’s she doing in the living room? I had to hear from second hand sources that the pharaoh was humiliated. Hit by his own fucking concubine, at a funeral put on for her sake. What an embarrassment. Not only did we lose a good soldier, but now to have military commanders see you in such a state, it reflects poorly especially when we have good men sacrificing their lives because they believe in their ‘god’, you! I doubt you’ll cast her out as you usually take a couple weeks to get bored of them, but you need to do something. She obviously doesn’t know her place.”
“Mirien.” Calion said, sitting on his bed and sighing in a calm voice. “Just stop. She’s mourning, I’m sure she’s sorry about it and I intend to handle it, but this is not the time. Something will be done… but it doesn’t mean I have to march her out and beat her in front of an assembly.”
“I don’t even know why you’re giving her such leeway. You like blondes? Fine, just tell me and I’ll dye the hair of one of my girls. You want a fresh one? I have more than enough Calion.” She walked over to sit beside him, placing her hand upon his thigh. “They’re just wet holes, we can get you more if they misbehave. Remember what is important.” She said in a softer, sweeter tone now.
Shelyn knew exactly who it was. The glare and yelling were enough. She waited until doors were shut. And watched as Jin left the room altogether before walking near and listening. Everyone seemed in such an uproar over him getting smacked. Truthfully she was waiting to hear Calion tell her to shut up and leave. And yet he simply allowed her to continue disrespecting her.
She shoved the doors open. "Yes you, a concubine, is just wet holes." She replied in hiss before near the bed. Finding that hand upon him, made her fume. However, she sat down within his lap. And draped her legs over his thigh to force the hand to move.
"You need to find your place, concubine. Unless you plan to start having his children, I suggest you learn how to show respect. He is already mine and I am his. And how he punishes his beloved is now of your lowly business. So why don’t you make your hold hands useful and pour us a drink while we discuss our future.."
Not that she had this right. But she wouldn’t let this woman come in and talk about her this way. Especially if Calion wouldn’t stand up for her. Calion needed to know and see exactly how she felt about him. Blame and all. How she had no problem showing him this side of her. Her fingers toy with his hair. Even if he pushed her away out of anger with her, at least he knew she accepted him enough to say where she belonged. To repeat that she was his.
It all happened so fast, naturally he didn’t think anything of Mirien’s hand on his thigh. After all, he didn’t associate her hand placement there as anything suggestive, if she had wanted to be suggestive she likely would have taken his hand and slipped it down her front. Still, it was obvious Shelyn grew territorial of her and while he didn’t say anything to interrupt or stop her it did lift his spirits to see she still cared about him, after all he was simply in a deflated spot since she was tossing all her blame upon him. Not that he couldn’t handle it, but such a thing would depress anyone especially when he was trying to develop feelings for the first time.
Mirien’s eyes flared in hostility as she withdrew her hand and was about to smack Shelyn across the face.
“Don’t. She’s not yours.” Calion said, his hand moving swiftly to grab Mirien’s wrist. “I gather why you came here, and I know you’re concerned about the war effort, but I will handle her as I see fit, it is not your place to step in, she’s not my concubine.”
Appalled she stood up and glared at Calion and furthermore Shelyn. “Cheeky girl. Do you know the difference in us? He’ll get tired of you one day, cast you aside for someone new. And you know where I’ll be? At his side, like I have for over fifteen years. Go ahead and get territorial, little girl. You’ve been his play thing for a week or two? Believe what you will, whatever fantasies are rolling around in that blonde head of yours. I see neither a ring or a child in your belly. You’d best pray you end up with his child, cause I give you about a month before he wants a taste of the new girls I can give him. And furthermore, you know what he always says?”
“Stop Mirien…” Calion said.
“No, she should know. She thinks she’s a ‘woman’ now that you popped her cherry. Wasn’t it always you who came to me in the past complaining on how boring these virgins were? There’s a difference in being fucked and getting fucked. He might now how to fuck you, but you certainly don’t know how to fuck him.” She took a breather and went to leave.
