Virgil stood there leaning against the wall in some random ally way clutching his shirt tightly. His body refusing to shift as he struggled to breathe. His anxiety was tearing him a new one. He had thought he was safe. That he could go outside and not have to worry but... No someone had to bump into him. He whimpered as he slid down the wall. His power turning against him as he tried to reign his thoughts in. He wanted to shift. He was trying to shift but his body just kept refusing. The most he was able to do was a constant shift in his nail polish color. What was originally pitch black was changing like the colors of the rainbow.
"Hey!" Virgil froze up, his nails instantly turning black again as his eyes darted up to see that man from before. They looked so scared. Of course, they look scared. Virgil scoffed at himself as he curled up more. Everyones scared of you. You're a shifter. Nobody likes shifters. Shifters are considered evil right from the start. Only ever good for villains... and mercenary's... hired help like yourself. "Are you ok?" Virgil frowned in confusion as he looked up noticing how the man... Roman? ... came a bit closer. He dropped to his knees with a soft smile that only made Virgil that much more tense.
"What... What are you... Did you follow..."
"I'm sorry." Roman smiled sadly as he nodded a bit. "I hope you forgive me... forwardness? I didn't mean for it to be creepy. You didn't look all too well. I was simply concerned." Virgil's eyes narrowed as Roman sighed. "I... I wanted to make sure you were ok. I've never been one who is able to ignore someone who might need help." He's a hero. Virgil's eyes shot wide at the sudden realization. His panic burned through him wildly at the thought of Roman doing something. He's a hero. He had to be. And if he was a hero... Virgil was screwed.
"I-I'm f-fine. I... I have... have to..."
"I want to help." Virgil froze as Roman gently took his hand, his eyes focused solely on Virgil's blue one, not seeing the shifting nail polish at all. "I want to help, please? We don't have to do a thing. At least let me get you off the ground. We can go get some breakfast. I was heading to the cafe anyway."
"You... already asked me that. I said no..." Virgil frowned seeing the intense worry in the other's eyes. He was definitely a hero. There is just no way anyone on this planet was ever that concerned over a stranger and not be a hero. No. Virgil really shouldn't just assume things like that. The man couldn't be a hero. The only heroes in this town were the three stooges. Roman was kind. He was stupid but kind. None of those three would ever have even looked his way let alone attempted to help him. He was just letting his panic get the better of him. Roman wasn't a hero... Right?
"Please? I just want to make sure you're ok. Then you go on your way and ghost me all you want." Virgil groaned as he just nodded curtly letting the other pull him up. Although in doing so, he had a sudden feeling of weightlessness that through him off. He ended up falling into the man. "Woah... You're ok. Sorry about that."
"I just... I got dizzy." Roman cringed slightly as he laughed through the tension. "Sorry. I..."
"It's my fault. It's ok." Virgil quirked a brow as Roman just shook his head. "Let's go, yeah?"
"Fine." Virgil grumbled lightly as Roman dragged him off. It wasn't long before he found himself at the cafe and he tensed. So many people... Roman carefully pulled him into a line before pulling out his wallet and frowning. Roman sighed catching Virgil's attention as he noticed the way Roman was clearly trying to work through things in his brain. He smiled sadly as he walked ahead of the other waiting for him turn as Roman silently followed behind, still to lost in thought. "Roman, right?"
"Huh?" Roman frowned slightly before nodded and just going back to his thinking. "Yeah. My name's Roman. Roman Black."
"Ok, Roman. What are you getting?" Virgil watched as Roman's eyes darkened as he looked through his wallet a bit again and shook his head.
"Just something small for my two siblings and I, before they go shopping. You don't have to worry though. Order whatever you want." Virgil's eyes narrowed as he turned back to the counter seeing it was his turn now.
"Can I have two dozen donuts variety please, medium 3 hot chocolates, and a large mocha frappuccino with four shots of espresso, a caramel drizzle, and whipped cream please?" Roman paled as Virgil just smiled. "Also can you throw in a banana nut muffin?" Virgil glanced around the menu bored in thought before laughing and pointing at this sandwich. "Can we also get that Egg and sausage, please? Ro do you want anything now or..." Roman cringed as he looked at his wallet before back at the board and just nodding. He knew he had the money but... He wasn't expecting to have to pay THIS much.
"I'll just have... w-what you did." Virgil nodded with a slight smile as he held up two fingers making the cashier laugh a bit.
"Two egg and sausage please?"
"Alright, that will be 37.86 please." Roman sighed as he started to pull out some money. "Thanks." Roman froze up instantly as he looked up to see the lady smiling as he counted some cash out. "Here's your change and your order will be right out."
"Thank you." Virgil smiled as he turned around and leaned against the counter, putting the change into his own wallet with a laugh. He looked up to see Roman giving him this look and he just rolled his eyes. "What? You didn't think I was really going to let you pay for my food right?"
"But... Not all of that was... You... I had the money." Virgil frowned as Roman gently put his cash back in closing his wallet with an off look. "I'm the one that offered to bring you here. You... You didn't have to."
"It's fine Roman. I knew I had plenty enough." Roman smiled sadly as they both just waited for the food and stuff to be ready. "So... why'd you try to help me, Ro?" Roman's eyes snapped up as Virgil just smirked at him. "I mean... I get that you were concerned but like... No one tries that hard for a stranger."
"I do." Roman smiled making Virgil give him this confused look.
"Here you go." Roman beamed as he walked over letting Virgil sift through everything so that Roman had what was his.
"Are you going to be able to carry all this?" Virgil frowned as the realization hit him. When he was ordering he wasn't even thinking. All he knew was he said he had siblings so... Shit.
"Yea." Virgil's eyes went wide as Roman piled everything up before holding it all with one hand, no issues at all. Roman just laughed seeing the shock in the other. 'Sorry. Guess I'm just too used to my powers."
"No. No, it's ok." Virgil smiled as he just shrugged a bit. "Though... I guess this is goodbye then?" Roman faltered as Virgil just shot him a finger gun. "I'm serious though, dude. You should just forget about me. It'll save you a lot of trouble. See ya."
"WAIT!" Virgil froze up as Roman yelled out before he could leave. Roman quickly pulled out his phone and smiled seeing the shocked confusion in the other. "Why would I want to forget a pretty face like yours?"
"You seriously..." Virgil groaned as he shot Roman this look, only for Ro to full-on laugh. "You're STILL flirting with me?"
"Why not?" Virgil frowned noticing the man didn't even have a hint of some sign he was faking. "You can say no but... I thought maybe... We could exchange numbers. I don't know. I just thought it might be nice to be friends."
"Wait... You want to be friends? With me?" Roman nodded as Virgil tensed a bit in anxiety. "You don't understand. You don't know me."
"So? I'd like to GET to know you. If that's ok with you." Virgil broke AGAIN as he just nodded and took Roman's phone quickly inputting his number in and walking out, leaving a very excited Roman behind. "YES!" Roman squealed startling everyone around him before he just giggled and ran home to gush to his twin about his morning. And to think, just yesterday he was so pissed off over manic and Raven. Today had defiantly made his week a bit brighter.
