Virgil glanced around the room he was in and frowned as his anxiety started to get the better of him. He had responded to a job but... nothing seemed to be here. He figured. Despite jobs for shifters being in high demand, there were a lot that were tricks. Schemes to snag themselves a monster. That's why shifters had to be careful. Either you hide yourself away never using your power and praying you never have an episode, thus allowing yourself to be a member of society or... You use your power and fall into what shifters call... the black.
The black is the nothingness of the world. Not quite criminal but not good either. You're just... nothing. You can't be yourself. You have to be everything and nothing. Always watching over your shoulder. Always keeping one step ahead of everyone... the government... heroes.
Virgil was in the black. He was so far in the black no on... not even other shifters even knew he existed. That was how he liked it. If no one knew Virgil existed, then he nothing to be scared of. Well... Almost nothing.
"Hello there... Shifter." Virgil's eyes narrowed as he looked around at all the people in front of him. He had walked himself into this junkyard. An ambush... typical really. They didn't even try to trap him. Amateurs.
"Hello. I suppose your the one that had the job." Virgil smirked as the man nodded. Virgil noticed how he had dark brown hair and bright fiery red eyes that made him look evil. One would think he looked like satan... Lucifer had blonde hair and blue eyes. Beside... Lucifer was an angel. This man was no angel.
"I'm surprised it worked. I... I can't believe we actually got one." Virgil sighed as his eyes darted about watched as the people all held up guns or some sort of a weapon.
"No see, you didn't get anything. Just because I'm here doesn't mean you've won." Virgil kicked a stone as sifted through his thoughts trying to figure out the best form to use in order to defend himself. "Do you have any idea how many 'traps' I've been through? This is nothing new. Just another Monday evening." Virgil's eyes scanned the area before smiling and letting his body shift. His hair went purple and his eyes went pink. This black mask fitted his face as he cracked his neck and readjusted his black leather trench coat. "Did you know that when you spot a raven its said that a lost one has come to see you?" Their eyes all went wide as Virgil fixed his biker gloves with a laugh. "I don't know who you managed to piss off for your paths to cross mine."
"FIRE!" The man yelled as Virgil took off. His glowing pink eyes shined bright as he he dodged every bullet that whizzed past him. He picked up a metal sheet and threw it up catching more as he grabbed a large pipe and hit someone hard in the gut with it. Time a slow as a snail as Virgil pushed another's gun away using the pipe to get them to drop it before elbowing them in the head. He bent back dodging more shots before smiling and jumped u, kicking the person in the chin and sending them flying.
"You guys are really slow." Virgil teased as he grabbed another and sent them flying into the main guy, both falling hard into the junk that surrounded everything. Virgil just stood there with this look as he shook his head. "What is it with you people? Why do you all have to hunt us?"
"You're a monster!" Virgil suddenly had the guy in his grasp as he went to punch him in the face only for someone to grab his wrist.
"Raven stop this!" Virgil growled as he looked back to see Resonant standing behind him with a glare.
"Great. More trouble." Virgil dropped the man and shifted into some random stranger not wanting to be in his Raven form for too long. You see, Virgil was a special kind of shifter. There were many different kinds. He was a rare one. So rare... there wasn't even a proper name for his kind. He could shift into any person he saw on a biological level. He can copy and use their powers while in their form. That in its self is rare as most Shifters can't even do full body shifts let alone use another power. But on top of that Virgil can shift into ANY person he saw copying their powers. That includes characters and people he's created. Plus... He NEVER forgets a face. That makes him dangerous...
...and nobody likes dangerous.
"What's meaning of this, Raven?" Virgil groaned as he spun around and just glared the hero down. OF COURSE!!! Of course, it was Rez. The one hero that absolutely hated him. For what?! Helping Manic protect that little girl? Virgil wasn't going to apologize. Just because Rez misunderstood what was going on doesn't mean Virgil should have to deal with his grudges. "What the point in hurting people?"
"You have no idea what was going on!" Virgil laughed as he stuffed his hands into his pockets. He watched as the main bad guy had scampered off along with many of his group. The ones that were unconsious obviously stayed along with this one girl who... was really good at acting.
"Shifter's really are evil!" She yelled out as she cried and 'nursed' her arm, even though Virgil hadn't even touched her yet. "We were just trying to give him a job. We were trying to help but he attacked us for no reason."
"Damn it!" Virgil could feel his anxiety burning in him as he shook his head. "I'm not sticking around for this shit."
"You aren't leaving!" Virgil tensed feeling the air shift and push down against him. His feet felt like lead. It took everything in him not to crumble to the ground. Damn that gravity power. Rez's eyes narrowed as he smirked at the frozen shifter. "I'm not about to let what just happen, Raven. I'm taking you in."
"It's really funny, you know?" Rez faltered as Virgil snickered and crossed his arms sassily. "You pride yourself on being at the right place at the right time. Always at the right place at the right time... right?"
"It's what I go by." Virgil's smile fell instantly as Rez shot him a prideful look. "I am a hero. I have to be where I'm needed when I'm need to protect those who are in trouble."
"Well, your 'perfect' record... just ended." Rez's face dropped with clear confusion as Virgil shifted into Polarity. "You did show up at the right place... but you were VERY late to the party." Rez gestured to all the unconsious people and Virgil just crashed. "They weren't the one who need yo..."
"Stupid Shifter just fucking drop!" Virgil snaped over to see the girl holding a gun up and he laughed. Rez's eyes went wide as the gun went off.
"NO!" Rez yelled out as Virgil teleported out, the bullet lodging in the junk behind them. "Damn it. I almost had him!"
