chapter seventeen

The next day, king Arthur sat queen De'arra down to discuss about the other piece of paper which the old woman said was with an enemy. They strategized plans on how to find and get rid of the person so that he or she would not pose a problem to the kingdom. They decided to hire some spies to check around for anyone who might be with the second piece of paper.
Meanwhile, Melina was cleaning the palace. She was washing the dishes when, she felt the presence of someone at the door. She turned to check who it was, and she saw that it was Ashley. Ashley smirked at her and started laughing maliciously. When she was done with her laughter, she started talking. "This is what you are good for dumb, little bitch. Have you even looked in the mirror recently? Because, you look like a freaking monster". She came closer until she was eye to eye with Melina and said with a cold menacing voice "listen to me, do not ever think that someday people will want you. No one has ever wanted you; no one will ever dream of wanting you and no one will ever want you. You are trash and that is what you will ever be".
If Melina was scared or not, she did not show it. She maintained a straight face and a cool composure. In her entire life, she had never done that. Instead, she would have been shaking, shivering and cowering. Ashley was kind of disappointed because she did not get the expected reaction from Melina. She huffed and stormed out of the kitchen. As Ashley was walking back to her room, she kept on thinking about how Melina was looking at her as she was insulting her. There was something about her eyes that sent shivers down her spine. She made up her mind to tell her mother about it. She was very sure something was up with her.
Back at the kitchen, Melina was very angry but, she could not do anything about it. She had to swallow everything. She put her hands on the tap in an attempt to open it and rinse the plates. She felt something was odd and when she looked down to check, she saw ice spreading over the tap. She quickly suppressed her anger and remembered what Noe said about emotions fueling your powers. After she reduced her anger, the spreading stopped. She then rinsed the plates and placed them in the plates rack.
Olivia entered Ashley's room and saw her lost in thought on her bed. "Ashley! What are you thinking of so badly that you did not hear me entering the room?". "Mom, Melina acted really funny today. I was making fun of her and insulting her and she kept on looking at me with these dead emotionless eyes that sent shivers down my spine. Mom, I do not want her in this palace. I want her out!" Olivia calmed Ashley down and told her she was going to do something about it.
Olivia thought of a very mischievous plan that will send Melina straight to her death. There was a forbidden forest right in the kingdom of Lasantha. There were stories about the place not having any light and that whoever entered it will never come out of it alive. She decided to send Melina there to get something for her knowing fully well that she will be dead before sundown. She went out of Ashley's room and barked out Melina's name.
"Melina! Where the hell are you? Melina ran out of the kitchen when she heard her name being called.As she got in front of Olivia, she told her something extremely shocking "Melina, I need you to go to the dark forest and get me a very beautiful rose flower. I need it for my flower vase". Melina started pleading "Aunty, you know the rumors. Anyone who enters the dark forest does not make it out alive. Please do not make me go. I am begging you; I do not want to die".
"Shut up you good for nothing girl! You will go and get me the damn rose and you will not complain. Is that understood?"
