chapter eighteen

Melina knew she could not win the argument. Nobody even cared if she was dead or alive. The only thing that was making her sad was the mere fact that she would not be able to say goodbye to her brother. She imagined how broken he would be when he heard the news about her death. She went out of the palace and started going down a lonely road. The road was deserted because everyone had been warned to stay away from there. By the time she got to the end of the road, she became very scared and started having cold feet. She knew she was already around the dark forest because the light was becoming dim with every step she took forward.
It was now within her sight and she closed her eyes as she stepped into the forest. She expected something to jump out at her and eat her. She expected to fall into an endless pit but, nothing happened. Instead, as soon as she opened her eyes, the whole place lit up and she was able to see. She was so speechless and amazed and then she realized that she just unlocked another power; the ability to create light. The forest was very beautiful and all the rumors about the place being evil dissolved immediately. She looked around and saw different beautiful flowers shining and looking extraordinary. She began searching for a rose and very soon, she found a patch of roses. Olivia told her to get just one flower but, she decided to get more for her. After plucking out the flowers, she headed back.
Meanwhile, at the palace, Olivia and her daughter were rejoicing until they heard a familiar voice by the door. "Aunty, I am back, and I got the flowers you wanted". They both ran out of their room and were dumbfounded when they saw Melina with a bunch of rose flowers. Olivia was gaping like a fish as the flowers were handed over to her. Melina bowed and went back to her chores with a smirk on her face and a thought in her head.
"They couldn't kill me now, could they?"

Olivia was so disappointed because Melina came back without a scratch. She was very sure that the plan was going to work but, it came back to slap her in the face. she had lost all hope when a plan popped into her head. She remembered seeing Melina sneaking into Noe's room a few days back. She formulated a plan to set her up. All she had to do was keep a close tab on her.
Melina knew that Olivia would not just let her go scot free and she prepared herself for any funny thing that might happen. She did not have time to see Noe throughout the day because of the load of work piled up for her and because her brother said that they had to be careful. Unknowingly to her, when night fell and she was about to sneak into her secret room, Olivia was watching her. She went to the bed, rested a little before she decided to go into Noe's room. Olivia smirked and a smile of satisfaction crossed her face. she was now certain that Melina had something up her sleeves.
