"Honey, you've been in bed all morning. I've made you your favourite, spaghetti carbonara for lunch".
I groaned in frustration as my mum's soft voice echoed through the gap of my bedroom door. Ever since mum started the chemotherapy I've been round here almost every single day helping with jobs around the house and having regular cups of tea.
"Coming" I said jumping out of bed and throwing on a fluffy white dressing gown.
Truthfully I had never slept in this long, but these past few nights had been rough. I hadn't been feeling the best and Alexander told me that he wasn't able to see me frequently as he had to catch up on work. He called me often and we'd spend most nights FaceTiming, but it wasn't the same. I loved the way he held me tight at night whispering words of love and admiration.
Rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I trudged over to the mirror and took a step back as I stared at my reflection.
"Ew" I mumbled in disgust.
My hair was like a bird's nest, my skin looked pale and blotchy and my eyes had dark circles underneath them.
Grabbing a hair tie, I tied my messy hair up into a bun and opened the door of my dark bedroom and let the bright light of the hallway blind the troll in her cave.
I followed the smell of the food and the sound of my mum singing sweetly in the kitchen. Since she had started her chemo she had been very sick the first couple of days. It was hitting her hard, but she tried to find the positive in everything.
As I stepped into the kitchen, my eyes fell onto my mum as she plodded around with a smile on her face. The doctors had advised that she stay in hospital so they could keep an eye on her, but she refused. She wanted to be around family and friends as that's what would keep her going through it all. Dad was always there with her when she had to go to hospital.
"Here she is. Oh honey, you don't look too good".
"Wow, thanks mum" I mumbled as I walked over to the table chair.
"No, it's not a nasty thing, you just don't look well" she muttered as she placed down a bowl of spaghetti before me.
The smell of smokey bacon and cheese lingered into my nose enticing me into the delicious meal. But as more fumes wafted into my nose, a wave of nausea swarmed through my stomach.
"Crap".
Before my mum had a chance to question me, I had jumped up and sprinted to the bathroom.
The overwhelming feeling of nausea had now turned to violent vomiting. Mum rushed behind me and held up any loose strands of hair.
She rubbed my back softly as the last of it came out before handing me a clean wipe and letting me sit back against the bathtub.
"Sweetie, what's wrong? Did you eat something bad?".
Even though I had just been sick, I still felt a horrible sensation of nausea floating around my stomach.
"I'm not sure. I ate what you ate, so I"-
Oh no.
I stopped listening to my mum as I realised that I was late. I was supposed to have my period 1 week ago, but it never came.
Alexander and I always used protection. I took the pill every morning. I was very careful. Oh no.
I didn't use it when Alexander pulled that spontaneous hotel move. I didn't take the pill the following morning and Alexander didn't use a condom.
