Lily
The room fell silent as all eyes flickered between Alexander and mum and dad. I knew Alexander had been tense about something, but I thought it was to do with work. I wasn't expecting this.
Alexander no longer looked at me the way he used to. This was a man staring at me with a look of hatred and disgust. There was no sign of the gentleness I had once seen in his eyes, no, he was angry and truths were about to be revealed.
"He, he couldn't have, my dad would never hurt someone". I mustered up the courage to look at Alexander, pain coursed through my heart as he looked at me and laughed mockingly to my response.
"Oh kitten, there's so much you don't know about your precious dad. Shall we start from the beginning?".
"Don't do this Alexander".
Dad's voice broke into what sounded like a plea. Whatever happened scared my dad. Something had happened and I was about to find out that my life is a lie.
"Is the famous mass murderer begging to keep his past quiet from his innocent children? I'm liking this weak side of you James".
My Dad glanced over at me, tears pricking the lining of his eye before his eyes fell to the floor.
"He isn't, h-he can't be".
"Shhh kitten. It's okay, I'll put those precious thoughts to bed. In fact, I've also brought some souvenirs for you all to look at".
Alexander reached into his bag and pulled a small file containing what seemed to be some newspaper articles.
"What's this?" I stated as I read some of the bold statements.
Alexander didn't say anything but laughed as I realised who I was staring at on the newspaper front page.
"Woman snatched off the streets".
Tears welled up in my eyes as I began to read the long article about a missing girl. I knew exactly who it was about. Her name was there, but I guessed it straight away from the picture. My eyes flew up to mum, but she was already looking at me with tears trailing down her face.
Hot tears started to pour down my face as my eyes moved over to my dad who was staring at the floor.
"Y-you kidnapped mum?".
Dad remained still, unmoving from his fixated gaze on the floor.
"Aren't you going to answer your daughter James?" Alexander muttered with pure hatred in your voice.
"Dad, tell me this is not true".
Ethan's voice was shaky and full of fear. I didn't want to believe it, but I knew by dad's expression that he had.
"Please, I, I"-
"It's true" dad whispered sadly effectively silencing mum's plea to change the topic.
"No". I covered my mouth silencing the sobs that were threatening to come out as I realised my dad wasn't the sweet loving man I always knew him to be.
It was true. He was a kidnapper and a murderer.
"How does it feel James? How does it feel to know that your children will soon enough despise you after finding out what you've done".
"W-why are you doing this?" Mum cried out into her delicate hands.
"Because your husband is trying to conceal the past, hide the demons and act as though everything is fine when it's not. He killed without intention, hurt without care and more importantly thought of his own needs even if it cost another person their entire life. Isn't that right Isabella?".
