I'd advise you not to read this book first as there's 2 books prior and stuff won't make sense.
The order of the books -
Stolen to be his Princess, Broken Memories and then this book. :)
Lily's POV:
"Good morning my baby girl, how's married life treating you?".
I smiled widely as I held the phone closely to my ear, my heart swelling as my dad's comforting voice echoed into my ear. It had been so long since I had heard his voice, especially since I had gotten married.
Matthew and I were childhood sweethearts and got married 6 months ago. Even though it wasn't a long time since the wedding, it felt like it had been years.
"Hi dad, I've missed your voice so much. It's better than ever. He's amazing dad, he treats me so well. But how have you and mum been, especially now all your babies have moved out of the house" I joked back mockingly repeating mum's words when I left the nest. I held back a laugh as my dad's velvety laugh echoed through the speaker.
"Your mum still finds it hard. She wants another baby, but I don't think I can cope with anymore nappy changes. We miss you and your brother like crazy, but now we've got 1 grandson so it's not so bad. Just promise us that you'll come and see us. Don't forget about us princess".
"Dad, I could never forget about you two. I have to go, but we can organise a family get together soon, ok?".
Dad let out a breathy laugh and sighed deeply.
"Ok sweetheart. Tell Matthew we said hi. Love you lots my princess".
"Will do, love you too dad. Bye".
Pressing the red button on the screen effectively ending the call, I placed my phone down on the kitchen counter and headed over to the pan of rich smelling tomato sauce with meatballs and turned the gas down not wanting the sauce to burn.
"Hey honey" Matthew called out as he walked closer and closer towards me. I spun around to greet my husband who had not long come back from work but was surprised to see him in a suit. Normally after a long day he strips off and walks around in his boxers. But I couldn't be bothered to question him.
"Dinner is nearly ready babe. Hope you're hungry".
I turned back to the pan to check on the spaghetti ensuring I hadn't over cooked it. Honestly, I sucked at cooking. I often called for a takeaway but after a lecture from my mum I was trying to be a better wife and cook more. He'd have to put up with a load of pasta and spaghetti dishes for now.
"Sorry darling, but I'll have to skip dinner. I have an urgent business meeting to attend to".
An involuntary pout formed on my lips as I spun around with an unimpressed expression.
"Really? No notice? Nothing?".
Matthew paced up to me and grasped my face with both of his hands.
"Babe, I know but this is a new business partner and we need to have this dinner to discuss the deal further and hopefully get a contract up. I promise we can have dinner together tomorrow evening".
You said that yesterday.
"Ok. Hope it goes well. Would you like me to save you some spaghetti?".
"Yes please. It smells delicious". Matthew placed a gentle kiss on my lips before pulling away with a small smile on his lips.
"I love you, you know that right?".
"Of course I do" I whispered back before turning my attention back to my one true love, food.
"Ok. I don't know when I'll be home, but don't wait up for me". I didn't turn to face him, but I could hear him bustling about grabbing items off the counter and shoving them into his briefcase.
"Ok. Hope it goes well" I retorted without sparing him another glance.
"Thank you. See you later my love".
A deep sigh escaped my mouth as the door closed shut leaving me alone in the kitchen with only the sound of boiling tomato sauce.
Don't think too much. You're just thinking the worst.
Checking the spaghetti once more, I smiled knowing the food was all cooked and ready to be served.
Draining the spaghetti from the pan, I carefully portioned it out, obviously giving myself more spaghetti because I'm a growing woman who loves her food.
Normally I'd share out the meatballs equally, but I was in no mood. Sneaking 3 more meatballs off his plate, I headed to the fridge and pulled out the parmesan and grated some over the tomato sauce.
"My gosh you are perfection" I muttered as I stared at the steaming plate piled high with food.
Collapsing on the sofa, I switched on the TV and began to tuck into my delicious creation.
I flicked through the channels unimpressed by the lack of interesting content, but finally settling on one of Gordon Ramsay's yelling shows.
"God I love that man" I chuckled as he held two pieces of bread against a woman's ears.
"WHAT ARE YOU?"
"An idiot sandwich".I had never laughed so hard and eating whilst laughing is not an easy task.
But I somehow managed and pouted down at my empty plate knowing full well my stomach would punish me later for eating the food so quickly.
Picking up the plate I placed it down on the kitchen counter and turned on the hot water tap eager to clean up then snuggle into bed to engross myself in any film starring Ryan Reynolds.
As I placed the plate down on the dryer, I took the opportunity to look outside at the night sky, but to my surprise a blacked out SUV was parked right in front of our house but on the other side of the road.
Strange, no one on our road has a car like that. Perhaps it's simply a friend of our neighbours car.
Again, overthinking things.
