Chapter 59: Welcome home

"Dad, how's she doing?".

"I'm not sure princess. She's still in surgery. They told me she should be out soon. I just hope this works".

I could hear the pain in his voice. He was just as anxious as we all were.

"Don't worry, Mum pulled through Sepsis, she will get through this. All we can do is hope that this operation will rid her of the cancer once and for all. I know she's upset she's having a Mastectomy, but the doctors say that since the chemotherapy wasn't effective, having this operation is the next and best chance we have".

I could hear him sigh in frustration but agreed to what I had said.

"She's going to get through this. I'll tell her you called. But what's so important that you couldn't be here.

"I already told you, Alexander and I have a meeting with the wedding planner. Unfortunately she can't do any day except today. We will come and visit you both tonight".

"Alright princess".

"Send our love to mum".

"Will do darling. See you later".

Switching off my phone and throwing it on the sofa I groaned in frustration. I hated lying to my dad, but there was no way I was going to tell him what we were actually doing.

"Which dining set did they have?" Alexander walked in with his iPad.

We had both been working tirelessly on their house. Now that mum was on the road to recovery we had to work quick to get the house up to the original state. Alexander wanted to complete it and then surprise mum and dad. In some way, it was perfect timing. Hopefully after the operation mum would be free of cancer and then they will return to their home, their true home.

"Lucky for you, mum has a photo of their set in her folder. She was funny like that. Guess it was some sort of reassurance for her in case anything got stolen. Came in handy".

Alexander wiped the sweat off his forehead and stared round at the newly furnished house.

"I can't believe we've just about finished. They're going to be emotional wrecks when we bring them here".

Alexander wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me in for a kiss.

"Not going to lie baby, I'm a little nervous about their reaction. What if they are angry about me buying the land and what if they don't want to live here-"

"Shhhh, they're going to shocked, but in a good way. They have no idea you brought the land, they have no idea that you had it built exactly just like their old home. They're going to love you even more. Stop these negative thoughts, we got work to do".

"Mr Richardson?".

The lead surgeon stepped out of the operating theatre and removed his mask from his face.

"How is Isabella? How is my wife?.

The elderly gentleman smiled at me and nodded.

"Your wife did great. The surgery went smoothly and she's currently in recovery waking up from the general anaesthesia. It will take some time for the results to come back, but the doctor will explain more. Also, I'm unsure if you wife told you, but she asked for a breast reconstruction and the doctor will explain the after care needed to ensure your wife heals properly. If you'd like to follow me, I'll escort you to your wife".
