Breaking Down.

After Derek hung up the phone with my dad I knew a call from our possible biggest opposition was not far behind. Although my grandma Felicia who lives in Montreal and owns 'The Great Blue Herron Lodge' came around. When we went there during my moms pregnancy after a lot of accidents and miscommunications,I was sure even though she and Derek came to appreciate one another and like one another I knew that might blow up.

I heard my cellphone buzz to grandmas ring tone and couldn't take another onslaught of negative emotions. I was shaking and Derek noticed and looked at me.

"Is that your grandmas tone?".

"Yes,I just know she will have a possibly worse reaction than my dad and I'm terrified of her hating me".

We ignored the ring tone and she left no voice mail. But then she called again and again,I turned off my phone and then Dereks phone rang and it was my grandmas number.

"Hello Felicia,how are you?".

"Derek what is this insanity I am hearing about you and my granddaughter?!".

"Depends,what have you heard?".

"Don't make light of this Derek! This is serious and is a crime!".

"If we shared a mother and a father then yes but it isn't for step-siblings just morally reprehensible".

"So you understand that and have somehow tempted my granddaughter like your father did with my daughter?".

"I didn't and my feelings for Casey come from a genuine place of love".

"If you love her how could you ask her to give up everyone?how could you?".

"Better then holding things in like I was doing since the day we met".

"So what will baby Blake call you? His married auntie and uncle or brother and sister!?".

"He can just call us Casey and Derek and when he gets older we can explain if we are allowed in his life".

"What happens when people at your jobs find this out?".

"What that we are a married couple?".

"That you were step siblings first!".

"Well that doesn't seem like it will come up!".

"When it does and it will you both could lose your incomes! Think of your futures".

"I am".

"Let me talk to Casey!".

"G-grandma."

"Why did you ignore my calls!".

"You know why....this reaction is why".

"Oh did you expect me to jump for joy at your clear and inappropriate relationship with a family member!".

"We were forced to be family members but we aren't blood related. If we had kids they wouldn't have anything wrong with them".

"Have you thought about that! Casey you could lose your job if anyone finds out or get attacked! Who knows how people would react! In many eyes this is still incest!".

"Grandma I'm breaking down here....if I go back to pretending I'll just be angry and fight with Derek just to feel anything....he makes me feel alive".

"Oh how dramatic,were you dead before?".

"Grandma I am happy can you please be happy for me!".

"I-I....Casey this is hard to even grasp and you are so willing to give up everyone,did you ever love any of your step siblings or Nora,Lizzy and myself!?".

"OF COURSE I DO! I JUST DID NOT WANT TO BE NUMB AND DATE VERSIONS OF SOMEONE I LOVE...".

"Casey....I just need some time....I love you".

"I love you to grandma".

The phone went silent as my grandma hung up. She at least still loves me but then again I Hope Lizzy or the others will call. But I doubt it and fear it. Things were depressingly quiet but Derek fought for me and I hugged him and we just laid down on the couch and cuddled. Holding one another.
