Mason Foster's PoV

The next couple weeks get harder on us. Morgan took a couple days to recover which left me and Zoe to watch over the pack. Zoe still has to go to school so I have to watch the pack during the day. I also watch them during part of the night. Morgan wants to help but she needs time to rest after getting shot. Zoe wants to help more but she can't miss too much school or else she will get in trouble. I really miss Liam's help with this. He always knows what to do even when it's hard. And as much as I hate Zoe, this is when it would've helped to have her graduated from high school. Every day it's getting colder outside too. That gets rid of the chance Crystal or Liam could change back to human form for a day or two. I'm the pack leader while Liam is gone. The pack agreed on it. Zoe was surprisingly good with having me be the pack leader. When I asked she told me it makes since because she's still in high school. And she helps run the store when Crystal is gone. She takes care of finances like paying the bills for our pack house when Liam is gone. She's really good at forging his signature.

I kept having to scare the pack back into our private property when I saw the hunter. We got lucky that only Morgan got shot when he first came. Now he keeps coming and won't leave us alone. It's getting harder to keep the pack safe because there's one of me and twenty or more of them. The number repeatedly changes. The wild wolves leave or come join at random times. The wolves that were human but stuck forever as a wolf or Crystal and Liam always stay here. When I see the hunter I growl and force the pack back into our private property then try my best to blend in with them. I can't let someone else notice that I'm not like the other Wolves.

When the hunter finally leaves it's when the sun starts setting. I head back to the pack house and change into my human form. I've been watching the pack for fourteen hours straight. I'm exhausted. And I hate how I have to rely on the pack killing bunnies or other animals and eating the raw meat.

I put my clothes on then go inside. Morgan smiles and hands me a plate with some food. I accept it and sit down. I start eating until Zoe comes into the room and tells me "I have a idea. But...you won't like it."
I stop eating and swallow my food before asking "What is your idea?"
"We bite someone and turn them into a wolf."
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because it's risky! We don't know them! How can we be sure they won't tell everyone about us?"
"It's risky but how else are we going to protect the pack? We need more help!"
"No! You aren't going to bite anyone!"
"You can't stop me!"
She starts heading for the door and I get up. I follow after her. She tells me "You won't be able to stop me."
"Yes I can. I'm faster than you."
"When you aren't exhausted. You are guarding the pack for what? Fourteen straight hours?"
"I can still go out there and stop you."
"No you can't. You'll fall down exhausted. Get some sleep Mason."
"No."
Morgan gets up and walks over to us. She tells me "I don't want to have a newbie wolf around but we have to. If we don't get someone else then the hunter will kill our whole pack one by one."
I tell them "we don't know if the newbie will be a wolf like us or like Liam and Crystal. And newbies take so much training. How do we know we can trust them if they are like us?"
Zoe tells me "We have to try."
I can tell I can't win against the two of them. I'm about to say something when I collapse on the ground.

I wake up a couple minutes later on a couch. I see Morgan and Zoe standing next to the couch. Zoe tells me "You collapsed because you're exhausted."
I tell her "That's because I'm relying on raw meat. While I'm out there guarding them the hunter keeps coming. He's showing up every day now. I can't risk coming back to the house to eat something real quick."
Morgan asks "Why didn't you tell us the hunter is coming every day?"
"Because I know you're still not at full strength. I'm letting you go early in the morning or during the night because the hunter hasn't shown up at those times. I don't even know who he is. I don't want you getting hurt. And Zoe can't be here when the hunter is here because she has to be at school."
Zoe asks "So can I go bite someone or are you gonna keep arguing with me? Because I'll do it with or without your permission."
I sigh and tell her "You can do it. But try to pick someone you know. So hopefully they will keep the secret. Not someone super old or super young either. That won't help us. And I'll take care of training the newbie whenever he or she changes if they are like us."
Zoe tells me "I'm fine with you training them."
She runs to the door and leaves. Hopefully the newbie won't ruin our secret. And they have to be fine with distancing themselves from others so they won't give away the secret. I ask Morgan "Who do you think she's going to bite?"
She shrugs and tells me "I'm not sure. But you should eat this."
I sit up slowly and she hands me a plate filled with fruit and some other food. I quickly eat it then set the plate down on the side table before laying down and falling asleep.
