Chapter 27: Sneaking Out

Morgan Rogers PoV

We are trying to figure out how to sneak Mason out. We live in a small town which of course has a small hospital. People will definitely see us leaving. Zoe asks "Would people get suspicious if there was a wolf, that we said was a dog, walking around?"
Kailey tells us "They would get suspicious but I can find a way to distract the staff to sneak him out. Or we just have him sign papers saying he's leaving against doctors orders."
Mason fell unconscious because he couldn't breathe and Kailey out a tube down his throat. She looks at his wound again and tells us "It's slowly healing."
She walks over to a cabinet and gets some tools. She walks back over and sprays a small amount of water into the wound. She uses some sponges to clean it some. She tells us "I'm making sure the wound is clean and not infected before his body completely heals."
I ask "Will that really help him?"
"It will. I've done this to other friends of ours before. That's why I wanted to become a doctor. So I can help people. Mainly people in our pack. But last I knew almost everyone moved out of the pack house."
"Yeah they did."
"Who's left?"
"Well you obviously know me and Mason are. Zoe will move in with us when she graduates high school and moves out of her parents house. Matthew still lives with his parents too. He still has another year of school. Then there's Liam and Crystal."
"How are they doing?"
"Stuck in wolf form. Crystal changed a lot sooner than she ever did previous years."
"What about Liam?"
"I'm not really sure."
Zoe tells us "About Liam..."
We both look at her. I ask her "What about him?"
"Me and Matthew want to force him to change into a Human."
We both look at her in shock. I ask her "Why would you do that? Matthew hasn't been around very long. You haven't either. Do you have any idea how painful it is for them to change?"
"Is that why we found pain medicine in Liam's bathroom?"
"What?"
"Yeah. We didn't think there was any pain medicine in the house but Matthew found it in his bathroom. Why would he have it?"
"I...I don't know."
"That's why we want to change him. So we can get some answers. And he's the smartest of us all. He will know what to do with the hunter problem."
"I don't know if that's a good idea."
"That's why I wasn't going to tell you. I told Matthew we would wait until Mason was better to do it."
Before we can say anything else Mason wakes up again. He starts choking on the tube. Kailey tells him "Calm down. The tube is helping you breathe. Stop being stubborn!"
He's still fighting the tube so Kailey pulls it out. The bed was already in a sitting position so he's already sitting up. He swings his legs over the side. He's gonna get off the bed if we don't stop him. I tell him "Mason."
He looks at me and asks "What?"
"Stop being stubborn. Get back on the bed."
"Morgan I'm fine."
"You weren't fine when we brought you here. You're still pale."
"I'm feeling better."
Kailey tells us "His wound is mostly healed now. You should grab the bottle so it doesn't get left here."
I grab the bottle and put it in my pocket. It's hidden in Liam's room. He shows pack members where it is after a couple years. Newbies aren't trusted with it. It was in a hidden compartment in his room. There's multiple bottles labeled differently but he said to take the small bottle and use it first. Most of the small bottle was put into Mason's IV but there's still some left. I'm not leaving it for the doctors to test. Mason reaches over to pull the IV out. Kailey grabs his hands and stops him. She tells him "I definitely did not miss how stubborn you are."
Mason is about to say something when he falls back onto the bed in pain. Kailey asks him "What's going on?"
He tells her "Shifting...trying to...stop it..."
That's not good. He's gonna change into his wolf form again. Kailey asks "How long can you keep yourself from shifting?"
He doesn't answer. He's in too much pain. I tell her "He's gotten better throughout the years. He can fight it more but... because he got shot...I'm not sure."
Kailey asks him "Is Morgan right?"
He nods his head. Zoe says "Then take your clothes off and change. If you sign out while in a hospital gown it will look suspicious. It's not like we all haven't seen you naked before."
Kailey takes the IV out of his arm then helps him stand up. We help him take his shirt, shoes, socks, and pants off. We we're gonna let him take his underwear off but he changes into a wolf before he can. After he changed into a wolf he collapses on the ground. We rush over and kneel down by him. His body is very worn out. This is the worst I've ever seen a wolf. Why did it have to be Mason? He's my brother. Well...not biologically. He's my adopted brother. Why couldn't it have been Zoe? She hasn't been the kindest wolf around. But then again she is new. New wolves are always angrier and more agressive. Kailey throws the hospital bed blanket onto Mason just in case he does change back. After throwing the blanket onto him he starts seizing again. And there's a mixture of blood and foam coming out of his mouth. I can't handle this. I can't stop myself. I start crying. Kailey is doing her best to help Mason and surprisingly Zoe starts trying to comfort me. Why is she suddenly being kind? I don't understand. She's always been rude to me. She gets even worse when Liam's gone. After crying for a couple minutes I calm down. I give Zoe an appreciate look and she nods back in response.

A couple more minutes go by and then Mason finally stops seizing and throwing up blood and foam. But he looks exhausted. He changes back into his Human form and weakly smiles at me. Me tells me "I'm fine. You don't need to cry."
I tell him "You've almost died so many times."
"But I didn't."
Zoe tells us "The last thing we need to do is start arguing. Mason, are you strong enough to get dressed on your own? So we can get you signed out."
"Yeah...I think so."
Kailey tells us "Zoe and Morgan step out for a moment."
We listen to her and quickly open the door, step outside, and close the door. Zoe asks me "How are you doing?"
"I'm ok. It's just..."
"Hard seeing Mason like that?"
I nod my head.
"I saw him like that at the house. That's why I rushed him to the hospital. I thought he was going to die."
After a moment of silence she asks "How much wood and supplies did you get?"
"Enough to fill our SUV inside and a lot on top. We are supposed to go back later to get more."
"When?"
"I'm not sure. They said they would call me."
"When we get Mason back we need to start building the fence."
"I wish we could get Matthew and Elizabeth's help building the fence."
"Me too but we can't risk it. We can't ask others over either."
"Maybe we could ask Kailey and her husband for help?"
"Possibly. Kailey for sure could help. I'm not sure about her husband though."
"But..."
"Yeah but it's still new."
"I could call our other friends and see if they could help."
"Would they actually come? They haven't been here in however many years."
"That's true but I can still try."
"If you really want to."
"I'll try when we get back home."
"That's a good idea."
We stop talking when the hospital room door opens. Kailey and Mason walk out. She's supporting Mason. He still looks slightly pale but he looks better. Kailey helps us so me and Zoe are supporting Mason. Then we slowly start walking. Kailey walks ahead of us and to the desk to get the papers. I quietly ask "Did you guys fix the mess in the room?"
Mason says "yeah we did."
Zoe asks"Why do you have to be so tall and heavy?"
"It's because I work out during my free time."
"You don't do photography?"
"Not really. Ecspecially when Liam's gone. I'm in charge which makes life harder for me."
Kailey hands us the clipboard and Mason awkwardly signs the sheets. Right when we are about to walk through the doors Matthews mom comes. She asks "What are you guys doing?"
Kailey tells her "He signed the sheet saying he's leaving against doctors orders."
"He can't leave."
Zoe asks "Why not?"
"I just got papers signed saying he's not allowed to leave. He isn't thinking right because of all the blood he's lost."
Kailey tells her "You know better than any of us that it's too late to pull those papers out when the patient has already signed out."
"Why are you helping him? He's badly injured."
"I'm doing my job as a nurse. We can't go against the protocols."
They look at each other until Dr Knight sighs and says "Alright, you can leave. Don't say I didn't earn you against leaving. You'll probably end up here again in a couple hours. Or be dead. It's your choice."
She walks away and we thank Kailey before walking out. Zoe tells us "He Should go in the car with you. The car we took...is messy."
We help Mason into the car I drove over. After that we both take the cars and head home. Today was very crazy.
