Chapter 38: Force Shifting

Mason Foster's PoV

After introducing Elizabeth to everyone I go and find Kyle and Julia. They are members that have been around for a long time and are good friends with Liam. They are the closest to him besides the couple of us who still live with him. I don't tell them why I want there help because they were helping build the fence, surrounded by others. Kyle and Julia are close friends with Liam and they are married. They have three kids. Them and there kids are all Werewolves. They have there own small pack in a different town. So they are continuing doing what Liam does even though they don't live here anymore. After we go inside the house I tell them "I didn't want to tell the other pack members but we are going to force shift Liam to talk with him."
Kyle asks "Do you know how painful that is? They shift occasionally back and forth but forcing him? That's the worst pain you could put him through."
I tell them "I know it's bad but we need to talk with him. I figured you two would be fine with it because you're his closest friends. You'll be able to get him to talk better then us."
Julia tells me "We've made him force shift before."
I look at them surprised. How come I never heard they did it before? Julia tells me "It wasn't fun. It's insanely painful and it's a short time to talk to him. But...we've had problems with hunters before and needed his help."
We head over to the office. I open the door, they step inside, I step inside, then close the door. The room feels so hot. I look and see it's filled with space heaters, hand warmers of various sizes, and other things that quickly warm you up. Kyle asks "Is everyone ready? This won't be easy. And he'll be in a lot of pain since we are forcing him to shift."
I look over at Morgan, Zoe, and Matthew. They all agree. Julia says "We either grab him and forcefully move him into his office or someone changes into wolf form and gets him to come. Which should we try?"
I tell them "We can try grabbing him first. If that doesn't work I'll guide him in my wolf form. It's been a while since he's been with you two and the others aren't as experienced...or he wouldn't be as likely to follow after."
Morgan asks "Should we bring clothes in here if you need them? Or towels? Or is Liam and possibly you going to be in here naked."
I tell her "Just towels or blankets. We can wrap it around Liam and I can wrap it around myself."
Kyle tells us "I'll help Mason try to grab Liam. If that doesn't work we'll get..."
I remind him "Matthew."
"Matthew to help...if the three of us can't get him then Mason will change into his wolf and get Liam."
Everyone agrees. Morgan tells us "I'm gonna go grab some towels and blankets real quick then you can go grab him. Morgan leaves the office and we all wait for her. Kyle tells me we should go find him while we wait. Because he could be in the basement, the main floor, or upstairs. We walk around searching until I spot him. He's laying down on the floor sleeping. He's sleeping next to some other pack members who are stuck in wolf form forever. They are all sleeping. Surprisingly, most of the wolves are sleeping. The temperature is really hot in here. Did they change the whole houses temperature? I look over at Kyle and I can tell he's thinking the same thing. Kyle asks "Should we just pick him up?"
I tell him "Yeah we can."
Kyle and I walk over and lift Liam up. Well....we try to but then we set him back down. He's so heavy. I tell Kyle "I'm going to go get Matthew."
He nods his head in agreement. I take a couple steps then Kyle tells me "He's waking up."
I turn around and Liam in wolf form stands up. He looks annoyed. He's about to go after Kyle but then I quickly change into wolf form and jump in front of Kyle. I growl at Liam's wolf and he backs down. I look at him and he starts following me. Kyle follows behind us.

I get Liam into the office and he does not look happy. It's so hot in here. I'm feeling it in my wolf form. That's why they are all falling asleep. When it's too hot or too cold wolves hibernate for a while. Morgan yells "Mason!"
I look over at her and she's giving me a look. I turn back towards Liam. He's still not fully in the room. Kyle's waiting behind him to close the door. I growl at Liam's wolf and he starts growling back. Then he lunges right at me and we are fighting in the middle of the office. I hear the door slam shut so I know everyone's inside. I get some pretty deep cuts and wounds from fighting Liam until he backs off. He looks tired. I take a few steps away from him whole still in wolf form. My wounds are slowly healing. I'm about to growl to force Liam's wolf to stay awake when he starts whimpering. At first it's very quiet where only I can hear it but then it gets louder. He starts moving all over the place. I can tell his wolf is trying to fight shifting while his Human side is trying to come out. I change into Human form so I won't fall asleep in my wolf form. Morgan throws a towel at me so I quickly stand up and wrap it around me. Liam's wolf is still fighting the shift. His whimpers are getting louder. Julia tells me "He'll shift soon."
After she says that Liam changes into his Human form. Morgan quickly wraps a blanket around him. He's in pain but he's trying to hide it by gritting his teeth. Kyle tells him "Sorry about force shifting you but this is important."
Liam looks up and seems confused on why some of his oldest friends are here. I tell Liam "Long story short there's hunters in the area. We called the whole pack in to help build a fence around the area. The hunter is trying to get permission to enter our private property if him and the other hunters think they see a dead wolf body in our area because it didn't have a fence built around it. They've also changed to poison bullets. I got hit and our newest member, Matthew has to. He reacted differently to the poison then I did. His blood helped save me because the last effort Werewolf medicine didn't. What should we do?"
Liam asks me "His blood?...helped?"
I tell him "It did. He's right there."
I point over to Matthew and Liam looks at him. I can tell Matthew's uncomfortable with Liam's eyes looking at him. None of us like Liam's look at us when he first meets us because it looks like he's judging us, not looking us over. You get used to it eventually. Liam says "He's the wolf...that..."
He stops talking but we can all see the pain on his face. I can see his hands change into paws for a moment then change back to Human hands. Kyle asks "You mean the old stories? I thought they weren't true?"
Liam tells Kyle "They...are true...I..."
Kyle says "I know you've always believed in them. But how does his blood help?"
"It can...help cure...this...."
Part of his body changes into wolf form and back. He's in so much pain. Julia asks "You mean he can cure those that get stuck in wolf form?"
Liam shakes his head no. I ask "Can it cure those who aren't stuck forever? People like you and Crystal who are completely stuck yet?"
He nods his head agreeing with me. Kyle asks "Should we try that right now?"
Liam shakes his head no. He tells us "No...not with me...try Crystal...I'm farther gone...then she is....but the...the hunters...."
I ask "What about them?"
"Get...rid of...them...or...move..."
"If we move then I'll need your permission to sell the house and property. We have to sign the papers together. And what about Matthew? He's not a senior. He's a junior in high school."
"That's...why...I try not....to turn...high school...kids...we move...or stop...the hunters...that's what we...always do..."
"If we move?"
"Either...he moves to us...after high school...or fake...his death..."
I look at Kyle and Julia. Julia tells Liam "We aren't faking anyone elses death. We've done that before. It doesn't look good."
Liam's body starts shaking. He's trying to fight the shift but his wolf wants to shift. Liam looks at me and tells me "You can....handle this...I trust you...as Alpha..."
Then he changes back into wolf form. He's gone. I can't believe he called me Alpha. Kyle looks at me and tells me "Congrats. You're the official Alpha now."
I can't believe it. I'm...the Alpha. Why did he do that? Does he know that he's not coming back? Or why did he do it?Julia tells me "Don't worry. He'll be back but I'm not sure for how long. When winters over it could be his last time as a Human."
Morgan tells us "I still can't believe he could be gone."
Zoe asks "Should we try using Matthew's blood to help Crystal, Alpha?"
I'm never going to get used to being called Alpha. I look over at Matthew and ask "Is that what you want to do?"
He tells me "If you think it will help her then I'll do it."
I go and open the door to let Liam's wolf out. He quickly runs out of the room. I tell them "I'll go find Crystal."
I go out of the room without anyone else coming to help me. I just need some time alone to process what I just heard. I'm Alpha now.
