Chapter 8: The Surprise

Matthew Knight's PoV

After my encounter with the wolf and getting bit, which really hurts, I make my way to my car and drive home. I make it home very late but of course my parents aren't home. I make my way to my room and change. I start feeling feverish and I collapse onto my bed. Of course the one time I'm sick, my mom, Whose a doctor isn't here.

After a restless feverish night I wake up feeling a little better. My body starts shaking and it scares me. For some reason while I'm still feeling feverish I run out of my house and to the woods. I end up changing into a wolf while in the woods. I take a couple steps, unsure of what just happened. Can being bit by a wolf really turn you into a wolf? Or am I hallucinating? Because I do have a fever. Or I did? I don't feel sick anymore. I'm startled when I hear a male voice tell me "You aren't hallucinating. You are one of us now. You can't tell anyone about us."
I turn around and see a red haired man with... Zoe?! What's she doing here? My next door neighbor is a...wolf person? The man tells me "Change back and we can explain everything to you."
I look at him. He wants me to change back? How can I change back? And why would I let my next door neighbor who had a huge crush on me and has for a long time see me naked? The man sighs and tells Zoe "Go get him some clothes from his room."
She looks at him uncertainly. She tells him "What if his parents are home?"
He looks at me and asks "Are your parents home?"
Last I knew they weren't. I shake my wolf head no even though I'm not sure. If my mom did come home she would've checked on me. Having a fever I definitely would've been rolling around all night. The red haired man tells her "His parents should still be out of the house but you should still be careful."
She runs towards my house and eventually makes it to my open backdoor and goes inside. I look back to the man and he tells me "I'm Mason Foster. What we are is called werewolves. I'm guessing because you haven't run off into the woods you are like me and Zoe. We can control when we change. It's hard to learn how to control it but it gets easier with practice. You can't tell anyone about us. That includes distancing yourself from others so they won't find out. Can you do that? If not then we will have to kill you. We can't let them know what we are."
How does he expect me, a social butterfly, to distance myself from everyone? Ecspecially Elizabeth. We just started to get to know each other. And I have a crush on her. I'm not distancing myself from her. Zoe runs back out and throws my clothes onto the ground. She smiles and tells me "Don't worry, I won't look...this time."
She walks into the woods and I make sure she can't see me before turning to the man. He tells me "You have to calm yourself down if you want to change. I know your confused but I will do my best to answer your questions after you have changed back into a human."
He turns to face away from me but continues talking. He tells me "Take some breathes, relax yourself. Focus on being a human."

I listen and eventually I change back into a human. I quickly grab my clothes and put them on. Zoe grabbed underwear, pants, a shirt, socks, and shoes for me. I did not want her looking for my clothes in my room but I couldn't stop her. I look back to my house. At least she closed the back door. He turns around and tells me "You changed."
I ask him "Why are you so secretive about being a...werewolf?"
Mason sighs then tells me "If we let people know then they would kill us. There's hunters who go after our pack that we worry about already. We don't need more people chasing after us."
Zoe tells me "I guess this means we are friends now. What are you gonna do about Elizabeth?"
Mason asks us "Whose Elizabeth?"
Zoe smirks and I glare at her. She looks over at Mason and tells him "She's his crush. And she has a major crush on him too."
Mason looks at us then heads back towards my house. I gather up my riped clothes and carry them to the trashbin outside the house. I toss them in. Mason tells me "Grab something from your house if you want. You're coming with us."
I head inside and grab my cellphone. I don't need anything else. At least I don't think I do. I head outside and see them waiting outside a car. Mason climbs into the driver's seat and Zoe gets in the back. I climb into the front passenger seat.
