Chapter 16: The Store

Mason Foster's PoV

When we all changed into wolf form because it's freezing cold inside I mindlink them. Matthew is surprised and confused when he hears our voices in his head. Morgan explains 'we can communicate in wolf form through our minds. It doesn't work in human form or wolf to human. It takes some time but you'll get used to it. You can talk with us too."
Elizabeth does pretty good getting the hunters to leave while wearing her disguise. When she asks for a volunteer Morgan asks 'who should do it?'
Matthew tells us 'not me. I wouldn't be able to help her. I'm still new to all of this.'
Zoe tells us as we look towards her 'not me. I don't know what she wants. And I've only been a wolf for a year. I don't live here full time. that leaves Morgan and Mason.'
Morgan looks at me and tells me 'it should be you. You are the leader when Liam isn't here. You know a lot more about how to deal with this. And you're the oldest.'
I tell her 'if we were human I would roll my eyes at you.'
'oh I already know. That's why I said that.'
I step over to her and talked to her in human form. When I changed back into my wolf form again and while I'm walking to Liam's office I tell them 'we figured out what we need to do.'
Zoe asks 'whats that?'
'use the emergency money to buy space heaters.'
Morgan asks 'should we really stay here in wolf form without her? We can't answer the door if someone comes when she's gone.'
I tell them 'we will have to risk it. Just don't do anything stupid.'
I try and open the desk drawer. I thought I was thinking to myself but it goes to all of them. I'm thinking 'the one time being human is more useful than it is to be a wolf.'
Zoe asks 'whats the problem? You can't open a door? Do you need help?'
'crap. I thought I was thinking to myself. Not all of you.'
Matthew tells me 'we all heard you. What are you doing?'
'showing Elizabeth where the emergency money is.'
She grabs the money and asks me about the note. I shake my head answering her question. I stick my tongue out and have my mouth open. She smiles. I put my tongue back in my mouth and start chasing my tail. I can hear her laughing I think 'stupid bugs.'
Morgan tells me 'I agree. They are everywhere!'
Zoe tells us 'you are both being over dramatic. I...crap! You are right! Stupid bugs.'
Matthew asks 'how often do you get bothered by bugs while in wolf form?'
I tell him 'all the time.'
I stop chasing my tail and walk with Elizabeth back to the living area. She asks what else we should get. Then she realizes she's speaking to wolves. She checks all around the kitchen.

Eventually I end up in the car with her and at the store. She takes the clothes off and puts on another outfit. She hides all of her hair in her hat before getting out. She tells me "try to act like a normal dog."
I jump out of the car and stick my tongue out. I make sure my teeth aren't showing. I follow behind her and we walk inside. People are surprised to see us. She follows after me to the isles she needs. I can change back to my human form because It's not freezing cold here but then I would be revealing myself to everyone. She grabs a flat cart and starts filling it with space heaters. She also adds on heat warmers. You shake them and then they warm up. She also grabs blankets that trap the heat. We walk to check out. The lady at the register seems surprised by all the stuff she's buying. She asks "What do you need all of that for?"
"Our heater isn't really working. And some of it is for my friends. You know because it's slowly getting colder outside."
She scans all the items and Elizabeth pays with some of the cash in the envelope. She brings the cart outside and fills the trunk with the items. She brings the cart inside while I wait inside the car. She gets back into the car and changes into another disguise. We get out of the car and she forces me to put a shirt on over my fur. I look at her and she can tell I'm not happy. She tells me "The workers would get suspicious if I walked in looking different but with the same dog."
I follow her but I'm walking funny. I hate how the shirt feels against my skin. We get inside and shortly after we get inside it starts lightly snowing. She looks at me and says "You should be happy. The shirt keeps you warm."
A little kid with there mom asks "Can I pet your dog?"
Elizabeth smiles at the kid and says "Sure, if you're mom's ok with it."
The kid looks at his mom. His mom says "as long as it's fine with you."
Elizabeth says "it's fine."
The kid walks over and starts petting my head. I just stand there looking at Elizabeth. Ugh. The kids hands are sticking. His hand slides down and to my back. Eventually it slides down to my belly. I let out some sounds. That's the spot Morgan pets me at. It's my soft spot. Elizabeth smiles and says "It looks like you found his soft spot."
The kid starts smiling. His mom says "I think that's enough. You should let her keep shopping. And we need to go before the weather gets worse."
The kid thanks Elizabeth then they leave. We head over to the meat section. She asks me "Which meat should we buy?"
I walk around and make sure no one's watching us before getting up on my back legs. I stick my nose at the different meats I know the pack will eat. She nods her head showing she saw then I climb back down. She buys some meat and takes it to the car. She tells me "You can stay in the car. I'll go buy more meat."

A hour or more later she's finally done changing disguises and buying meat. That should hopefully last a while. We head back to the house. She pulls up by the front door. I head inside with the shirt still on me. Morgan looks at me with a wolfy grin. Zoe looks confused. Matthew doesn't seem to care. As soon as I'm inside I start trying to get the shirt off. Morgan tells me 'that looks good on you.'
I tell her 'I hate it! It's rubbing against my fur!'
They all stand there watching me struggle. We all want to help Elizabeth but we can't. Eventually she gets the stuff inside and moves the car to be parked in front of the garage. She puts all the meat away. Some of it in the freezer. Most of it goes into our giant garage freezers. When she comes back she sees me struggling. She tells me "Stay still."
I stop moving and she helps me out of the shirt. She grabs three other shirts from the pile of clothes. She puts a shirt on Zoe, then Matthew, lastly Morgan. I hear in our mindlink Morgan thinking 'you are right! I hate it! It's so itchy! Why do people do this to there pets?! This is not ok! Get it off!'
Morgan starts trying to get the shirt off. She's running around the house very annoyed. Matthew doesn't seem to mind. Zoe tells us 'its annoying but its not too bad.'
Elizabeth laughs and yells "Morgan I'll take it off! Stop running! I knew you would all be laughing at Mason's reaction so I got payback for him."
She stops running and Elizabeth takes it off. She takes the shirts off the others then starts setting up the space heaters. She turns them on and the living area slowly gets very hot. She quickly rushes and puts the heat blankets over us. Zoe changes back into a human first. Morgan changes next and then I do. Matthew is struggling. He doesn't know how to change back. I wrap the blanket around me then walk over to him. I tell him "Calm down. You need to be relaxed to change. Take deep breathes. Think about something that will calm you down. Being stressed or tense won't help you."
I watch as he closes his eyes and focuses on calming down until he changes back. I can tell it was very painful for him. Changing when you aren't used to it is very hard. Morgan and Zoe step over to help. I tell them "You can't help."
I can see the pain on his face but he's trying to not cry out in pain. I tell them "Go get dressed. Help Elizabeth put the clothes she borrowed away."
They wrap the blankets around themselves and head upstairs. Elizabeth follows them with all the clothes she grabbed. When they are all gone I tell him "You can cry out in pain. They won't hear you."
He looks at me and asks through gritted teeth "Does it...always hurt?"
"At the beginning when you are first learning it is."
After a couple minutes he finally relaxes and isn't in too much pain. I get up, wrapping the blanket around me. I tell him "You can borrow some of my clothes."
He wraps the blanket around himself and slowly stands up. He follows me upstairs and to my bedroom.
